I came to Give you a Sword

Matthew 10:32–39 NKJV
32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven. 34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
Jesus says I didn’t come to take care of everything and make you comfortable:
I’ve actually come to do the opposite of that
Jesus warned the disciples of what was going to come into their lives
He gives us peace but we’re going to have to fight for it
What the Jews and everyone was looking for the Messiah to do was to make it easy for them
But when they strung him up on a cross
Only one of them was found hanging around
Acts 1:4–8 NKJV
4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
K you died and rose again, Now are you going to restore the kingdom?
Now are you going to do everything for us?
But you shall receive Power!:
What’s crazy to think about we went from everyone of the disciples disappearing at Jesus’ death to but John
Everyone of the disciples but John died a Martyr’s death
Not that they didn’t try to kill John he just refused to die
exiled to Patmos
Today I want to talk about Your comfort zone:
For a long time I remember the #1 selling chair in America was the Lay Z Boy recliner
Everything innovative is to make life easier:
Most of the time progress equals comfort
Not to say i’m not thankful for advances in technology but we’re being forced into laziness
A few dangers of the comfort zone:
There’s no sacrifice in the comfort zone
Life is set on cruise control
You don’t have to focus
Complacency is normal
There’s nothing to gain there
nothing ventured, nothing gained
Boredom is the fruit of the comfort zone
Comfort crushes creativity and promotes conformity
They’ve tricked us into be so comfortable that we’ve conformed
Our comfort zones often get bigger when are basic needs are met and we are able to set the cruise control
Or at the presence of a barrier in our mindset:
“Nature uses hypnotic rhythm to make one’s dominating thoughts and one’s thought-habits permanent. That is why poverty is disease. Nature makes it so by fixing permanently the thought-habits of all who accept poverty as an unavoidable circumstance.”
Comfort zones are base largely based on two fears:
Fear of rejection
wanting to be like by everyone
we won’t fit in
people will disagree with our beliefs
People will think less of us if we don’t engage in a, b, or c
For so long I chose a destructive lifestyle because I was so worried about what people would think about me
When in hindsight people would’ve respected me the most our of everyone
2. Fear of failure
What if i try going to the gym and I’ll look dumb
What if I make a goal and I don’t achieve it
What ever your what if looks like
The bigger the fear the bigger the comfort zone
Romans 12:1 NKJV
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
How to break out of your comfort zone
Get used to being uncomfortable
discomfort is the first sign of growth
Going to the next level (examine and feel for discomfort)
discomfort should be the gauge for direction
Stir the Pot
create your own disruption
if you sleep in get up early
if you listen to a podcast try praying or listening to worship
Get out of your rooms
get out of the rooms that make you familiar or comfortable
get out of the bar room
out of the rooms that you’re the smartest
get around people that make you grow
Progress Plateaus when we are comfortable
Too much certainty, and we won’t fulfill our need for growth and new experiences. But too much uncertainty can lead to anxiety and lack of productivity
John 16:33 NKJV
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
