God goes before us!

Deuteronomy 9:1–3 NKJV

1 “Hear, O Israel: You are to cross over the Jordan today, and go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven, 2 a people great and tall, the descendants of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you heard it said, ‘Who can stand before the descendants of Anak?’ 3 Therefore understand today that the Lord your God is He who goes over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall drive them out and destroy them quickly, as the Lord has said to you.

Therefore he emphasized that from a purely military and human point of view their victory was impossible. The enemy had superior strength, fortifications (large cities with high walls), experience, and numbers.

And they had gained a terrifying reputation: Who can stand up against the Anakites?

God made it clear that He will go before Israel.

Just like in the desert the Lord went before them in a pillar of a cloud, So now He will go before Israels army as a devouring fire to destroy the enemy.

Proverbs 21:31 NKJV

31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But deliverance is of the Lord.

But God isn’t asking His people to remain passive still go out to battle but the victory will come as God promised.
