Text: 2 Peter 3:18
Intro: We are going to begin our study today with a look at the importance of us as believer’s seeing through the eyes of faith the glory of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. There are two ways in which His glory is revealed.
2 Corinthians 5:7 By _______________.
2 Corinthians 5:8 By _______________. (In context, this revelation is for believers.)
Read: Exodus 33:18-23, 34:5-8, 29-35
Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
What is the glory of Christ?
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Read: Isaiah 53:2-5 (Do we see glory in this? _____________)
And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
We will come back to this… “but for your sakes”
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Notice: There is no glory spoken of in the events that Christ listed in these verses.
These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
But for your sakes:
Read: Mark 13:5-6, 22
The Jews required a sign, the Jews are still looking for a sign, the Jews should be looking for their Saviour!
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;
Note: In our King James Bible we understand that the word conversation isn’t talking. The context is this; people see our life and it speaks volumes. Our life speaks to friends, family, co-workers and it even speaks to God.
Peter states “But as he which hath called you is holy...” If we never see Christ as the Lord of glory then we will never be conformed to that image while here. Seeing Him in some other state than that which the Bible reveals Him is in fact a form of antichrist.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
When we look into this book as in a glass (mirror) beholding the glory of the Lord, we are changed into the same image!
Closing: However we view Him, however we see Him, whatever our view of the holiness of Christ is, will be the bar that we set in conjunction with 1 Peter 1:15.
If I have a low view of Christ, that low view is what will manifest in my life.
In seeing Him Glorified, High and lifted up, I promise a view of Christ in that light will change your life!
The goal of this study is to see Christ as He is today in Heaven seated at the right hand of God the Father, High and lifted up, rejected King, waiting for His enemies to be made His footstool.
We can only see Him through the eyes of faith, but one day, we will see Him with these eyes, and we will behold the glory of Christ that for now we can see through believing His word.
In Christ coming in flesh, He vailed His glory, a glory that is eternally His, a glory that is eternally due. When we see Jesus glorified through the eyes of faith, we give Jesus the glory that is rightfully His!
