REVELATION - Living in Light of Christ's Return part 2
As I come forward at end of worship
SLIDE 1 “WELCOME WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE HERE”
Words of encouragement from worship
We will finish up all our review on the Book of Revelation today
SLIDE 2 “REVELATION- Living in the Light of Christ’s Return”
Last week we went through all the events up to Chapter 8
How appropriate our title has been for the review “Living in the Light of Christ’s Return”
We saw from Rev 7, Daniel 12, Mark 13 last week where the church, those who are called of God taken to heaven around God’s throne....
This would be at the 6th seal that Jesus opens in Chapter 7
Reminder that much emphasis in the gospels on being prepared, “those who endure to the end” the messages to the churches in Rev 2 & 3 have the words, ”those who overcome”
The epistles from Paul, Peter John etc are all about followers of Christ growing in their walk with Christ, how the follower of Christ should behave etc
You pick up or gather much into your heart that the one’s preparing...... will be in a sense..... like more protected in some way
Jesus here talking to the disciples and to believers for today
SLIDE 3
Luke 21:17–19 NASB95
17 and you will be hated by all because of My name. 18 “Yet not a hair of your head will perish. 19 “By your endurance you will gain your lives.
Now look at few verses farther of those not preparing
SLIDE 4
Luke 21:25–26 NASB95
25 “There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, 26 men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Matt 24, Mark 13, Luke 21, Joel 2 all line up to Revelation chapter 7 with the signs in the heavens with the moon, stars, roaring seas and waves
All then have the coming of Christ for the church or followers of Christ
Notice the description of those not prepared are fainting, I believe will be some taking their own lives
SLIDE 5
Luke 21:34 NASB95
34 “Be on guard, so that your hearts will not be weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of life, and that day will not come on you suddenly like a trap;
dissipation here is in a type of hung over fogginess
worries is caught up in cares of this life and anxieties of this life
trap is the allurements and seductions of sin, anything that has a hold on you, like an animal unaware of a snare hidden or fish unaware of a baited hook
Even though the signs in the heavens, stars and seas Jesus tells us it will still be business as usual
SLIDE 6
Matthew 24:36–38 NASB95
36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 37 “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38 “For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
SLIDE 7
Matthew 24:39–41 NASB95
39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. 40 “Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41 “Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.
All the way to verses 51 and into chapter 25 Jesus is still giving stories, examples of those who are prepared and not prepared
So at the end of the 7th chapter and those who prepared called to heaven we have this scene at the end of Rev chapter 7
SLIDE 8
Revelation 7:15–17 NASB95
15 “For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. 16 “They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”
This is the first time we see saints around the throne in Rev chapter 7
Another thing I forgot to mention in chapter 4 last week .... the part where when the 4 living creatures around the throne give glory to God, then the 24 elders fall down before God and worship and cast their crowns before Him
crown is mention around 50 times in Scripture but it only shows the elders casting their crowns before Him
Psalms tells us we are crowned by God with lovingkindness, 2 Tim tells us we will receive a crown a righteousness, James tells us we will receive a crown of life.
I do need to ask for forgiveness for something the Lord had laid on my heart after last Sunday.....If I’m wrong.....If I’m right examples I gave several times last week
We see the wonderful scene of the saints in heaven at end of Rev chapter 7
Chapter 8 begins with the Lamb breaks the 7th and last seal on the book or scroll and silence in heaven for 1/2 an hour
SLIDE 9 “THE 7 SEALS, 7 ANGELS, 7 TRUMPETS”
With the 7th seal being opened we have the 7 trumpets which bring Apocalypse events on those who are left on earth
We an angel pours incense to earth with lightening, thunder and an earthquake......this incense is actually filled with prayers of the saints......I wonder if were for all loved ones and friends who never received Christ
SLIDE 10 “THE 7 TRUMPETS CHART”
Chapters 8, 9 and 10 will be 7 trumpets blown by the 7 angels (one at a time in order) what is described as the “woes” on those who dwell on earth (3 woes)
Much destruction poured out on earth at each trumpet being blown also with the pit of the abyss being opened up
The 144,000 still on earth but not harmed
Those who rebel against God and not repented still will not repent
Chapter 11 John is told to measure the temple of God, that it will be trampled by the nations
SLIDE 11 “THE TWO WITNESSES”
Also in chapter 11 ....actually much of chapter 11 about the two witnesses, quit amazing the events that happen on earth with them
SLIDE 12
Revelation 11:6–7 NASB95
6 These have the power to shut up the sky, so that rain will not fall during the days of their prophesying; and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire. 7 When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.
We feel Scripture tells us these will be Moses and Elijah
Looking at this verse Elijah had shut up the sky and no rain, Moses miracles of the plagues in Egypt and water into blood etc
Also talking with Jesus on the mountain at the transfiguration in Matthew chapter 17
SLIDE 13 “THE TWO WITNESSES”
Also the beast comes up out of the abyss and kills them, all those on earth will celebrate because they felt tormented by these two prophets.....even give gifts to each other
They will be brought to life and taken to heaven and fear comes on those on earth
The twenty four elders on theirs faces worshipping again
SLIDE 14 “REVELATION 12 SLIDE”
Revelation chapter 12 is what we call the flash back in time with the history of Israel and Jesus being born and how the dragon / satan tried to kill Jesus, he was cast out of heaven by Michael and his angels
SLIDE 15
Revelation 12:12–13 NASB95
12 “For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time.” 13 And when the dragon saw that he was thrown down to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male child.
The great news for the saints in chapter 12 is that we overcome the dragon “by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony” (Rev 12 verse 11)
SLIDE 16 “REVELATION 13 SLIDE”
Describe from the slide
Rev chapter 14 is the rescue of the 144,000
SLIDE 17 “REVELATION 14 SLIDE”
Describe from slide
Then we have leading up to chapter 15 the 7 bowls of the wrath of God
Keep in mind men on earth still will not repent but curse God
SLIDE 18 “THE SEVEN BOWLS SLIDE”
Describe from slide
That fulfillment takes us to chapter 17
And the judgment of Babylon and its world system
SLIDE 19 “JUDGEMENT OF BABYLON”
Explain and describe
The kings and peoples of the earth will mourn but saints rejoice
this cause a four fold hallelujah in heaven and much celebration
How this system corners believers and and tries to get us to compromise
Story of Jericho and after the story about the battle at Ai and Achan
Look what system trapped him and cause him to compromise God’s word
SLIDE 20
Joshua 7:19–21 NLT
19 Then Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give glory to the Lord, the God of Israel, by telling the truth. Make your confession and tell me what you have done. Don’t hide it from me.” 20 Achan replied, “It is true! I have sinned against the Lord, the God of Israel. 21 Among the plunder I saw a beautiful robe from Babylon, 200 silver coins, and a bar of gold weighing more than a pound. I wanted them so much that I took them. They are hidden in the ground beneath my tent, with the silver buried deeper than the rest.”
SLIDE 21 “GREAT MULTITUDE AND COMING OF THE LORD”
Chapter 19 The 4 fold hallelujah and the coming of the Lord on the white horse
SLIDE 22 “CHAPTER 20 SLIDE”
