Luke 15:11–32 NKJV
Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. “But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.” ’ “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry. “Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.’ “But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’ “And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’ ”
Proverbs 22:6 NASB95
Train up a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
When we think about the Prodigal Son Story, we usually think about how gracious the father was by receiving his young son back into the house, and having a big celebration for his safe return.
Now, all of what I have mentioned is true about the Prodigal Son story. But the prodigal son story is deeper than the young man leaving home, getting into trouble, and coming back home. That is, the Prodigal Son story is not just limited to young people. You see, you can be 30, 40, 50, 60, or 70 years old and still be considered a “prodigal son.” You can be a girl or a woman and be considered a “prodigal daughter. You can be a Baptist, a Methodist, a Catholic, Church in God in Christ, or a Lutheran, and still be considered a “prodigal son.” You can be a choir member, usher, deacon, or a preacher and still be considered a “prodigal son” because any time you stray away from God to do your own thing, you are a prodigal son. Any time you stray from the church, you are a prodigal son. Any time you stray away from prayer, bible study, Sunday School, or any time you stray away from serving God, you are a “prodigal son.” And as a prodigal son, you will find yourself doing whatever that pleases the flesh and not those things that pleases God.
Now the question is, “What does a prodigal son look like?”
A prodigal son is a Christian who have strayed away from the will of God. The reason why a prodigal son is a Christian is because in the story of the prodigal son we notice that there was a relationship between the prodigal son and the father. Even though the prodigal son had left his father’s house to do his own thing, he was still his father’s son. Likewise, we as Christians have a relationship with God the Father through our faith in Jesus Christ, which makes us Sons of God. But yet sometimes as children of God, we will go astray, and become a prodigal son. For example, if you are a Christian, and yet you are smoking weed, you are a prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and yet you are getting drunk on the 40 ounces, you are prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and you are sleeping with every woman or man in town, you are a prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and you are disrespecting your parents, you are a prodigal son. If you are a Christian, but yet you are cutting up in school by starting fights all the time, not doing your homework, not respecting your teachers, and dropping out of school, you are a prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and yet you gamble all of your money away in the casinos to the point that you don’t have any money left to pay your bills, you are a prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and you are abusing your wife, abusing your husband, or abusing your children, you are a prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and you have stopped coming to church, stopped going to Sunday School, stopped going to bible study, stopped praying, stopped reading your bible, stopped serving the Lord, you are an prodigal son. If you are a Christian, and you have stopped witnessing for Jesus, but yet you tell lies and dirty jokes as a substitute, you are a prodigal son. A prodigal son is anyone who is a Christian who has stopped trusting in the Lord for his or daily needs and has strayed away from God’s will
Now, living a life of a prodigal son would get you nowhere. You may try to get away from God as far as you can, but you will get nowhere. You may try to get away from the church as far as you can, but you will get nowhere. You may avoid hanging out with people who love the Lord because you don’t want to feel guilty about yourself straying away from God but that will get you nowhere.
Just like the prodigal Son in the story who wasted his substance with riotous living, you are wasting your life away when you stop living for the Lord Jesus Christ. Not only that, if you don’t have the Lord Jesus in your life, you are wasting your life away.
Just like the prodigal son who was in want after he spent all that he had, your life will be empty when you are out of the will of God.
Just like the prodigal son was working in the pig pen and desired to eat what the pigs were eating, when you stop trusting in the Lord, when you stop going to church, when you stop praying, when you stop reading God’s word, when you stop serving the Lord, and start doing the things that please the flesh and not doing the things that please God, you will find your self hitting rock bottom. You will find yourself being in places that you should not be. You will find yourself doing things that you should not be doing. In other words, you will find yourself with a whole lot of unnecessary drama.
But just as the prodigal son came to himself and went back to his father house, and his father received him back with open arms, no matter how far you have strayed away from the Lord, God still loves you and he waiting for you to come back home. No matter how long you have been away from the church, God still loves you and he is waiting for you to come back home. No matter what you have done in this life, God still loves you and he is waiting for you to come back home. And when you come back to God like the prodigal son had returned to his father’s house, God will have mercy and forgive you of your sins.
In 2nd Chronicles 7:14, the Lord says, “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; and then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will hear their land.”
In Psalm 51:1-2, Kind David prayed this prayer to God when he had strayed away from God: “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness; according to thy multitude of tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
In Isaiah 55:7 says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
The bible also says in 1 John 1:9 that “if you confess your sins, God is faithful and just to forgive you of your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness,” because the blood of Jesus Christ will cleanse you from all sin.
Some people are the other brother , Faithful loyal but just as dead inside as his brother when things didn't go his way when he didn't get the recognition that he though the deserved when someone in his eyes less deserving received praise and he didn't he became the prodigal
Some of you have you own prodigal son or daughter husband or wife , mother or father brother or sister I say to you what the scriptures say to us all that God has answered his own words with truth in my life in my families life
James 4:2 (NASB95)
. You do not have because you do not ask.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NASB95
Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Luke 18:1–8 NASB95
Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray and not to lose heart, saying, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. “There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me legal protection from my opponent.’ “For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will give her legal protection, otherwise by continually coming she will wear me out.’ ” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge said; now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? “I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?”
Do not Loose heart keep praying without stopping pray in faith not doubt pray like you need it like they need it like if they were given a hour to live pray that God would do a miracle throw them upon the Holy alter Of God like Abraham and Issac Give them to God to do as He will that they may come home that your precious beloved son or daughter whoever your prodigal is would come home to Him and rejoice while you wait for God to act
Knowing that
Romans 8:28 NASB95
