Romans 5:8 KJV
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Inroduction:
Friday Night, I was watching the George Foreman biopic on Netflix. There was a part in the movie where a mother had bought her son to George Foreman to teach her son how to box. He kept getting in and out of trouble and she felt that George Foreman could help her son get out of trouble by teaching him how to box.
The thing about that is that George Foreman during this time in his life had been saved and started preaching. He had given up boxing and swore not to return to the ring.
He told the mother and the young man that all he needed was God and his word and that he didn’t need to learn how to box.
While all that was true in a sense, the following week I believe, the young man was either in the paper or on tv for committing a crime and was on his way to prison. This upset George Foreman because he said he was so full of self-righteousness and so spiritually high that he could not meet the boy where the boy needed him.
He was so drunk and occupied with trying to get the young man to come up to his standards instead of he himself, humbling himself meeting the young man where he was in need.
Afterwards, he thought to himself that he was just like that young man. He stayed getting in trouble, he stayed getting in fights, went to Job Corp and nearly got put out until one of the deans met him where he was and taught him how to box, it literally saved his life.
Saints of God need I remind you that we too have to be careful how we conduct ourselves not only amongst one another, but especially around those who are unsaved.
We have to learn how to meet people where they are. We are quick to throw out rules and regulations, you gotta do this, you gotta do that. And we try to pull people up to the standard that we are living. Sometimes, the only thing they need is love.......because true love will meet you where you are at.
I. Jesus met people where they were at.
Matthew 11:19 KJV
The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
II. We have to do what Jesus done and meet people where they are at.
Luke 14:12 KJV
Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.
III. We need to be mindful and grateful that Jesus met us where we where at.
Romans 5:8 KJV
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Paul then says in Romans 5:6 that “when we were yet without strength” when we were utterly helpless, when we were living a sinful life and couldn’t help ourselves, when we were bound and held captive by the devil, when we were on our way to hell, when humanity as a whole was in a state of depravity, Christ died for the ungodly. The NLT says Christ came at just the right time!
Is there anybody in here that has that testimony that Christ came at the right time and saved. Many of us have the testimony that if Christ hadn’t saved us when he did, we’d don’t know where we’d be. Some of us would’ve been strung out, some of us would’ve drunk ourselves in the bottle. Some of us would’ve been locked in a padded cell, in a straight jacket, some of us would’ve been locked up in jail, some of us would’ve been homeless, some of us would’ve been on the street corner, but most of all some of us could have died and been on our way to hell and then the Lake of Fire......BUT THANKS BE UNTO GOD THAT CHRIST CAME AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME AND DIED FOR ME, THANKS BE UNTO GOD THAT AT THE RIGHT TIME, THE LORD REACHED OUT TO ME.....I SAID THE LORD REACHED OUT TO ME.......I DIDN’T REACH OUT TO HIM....HE REACHED OUT TO ME.
I WAS NOT DESERVING, I WASN’T WORTHY, I WAS A WRETCH UNDO, I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT WAS HE SAW IN US.......BUT HE SAVED US AND TRANSLATED US INTO HIS KINGDOM......AND I’VE GOT TO TELL HIM THANK YOU. I GOT TO LIVE FOR HIM.......I’VE GOT TO SERVE THE LORD, I’VE GOT TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL MY HEART, WITH ALL MY MIND, AND WITH ALL MY STRENGTH. IS THERE ANYBODY IN HERE THAT CAN PRAISE THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH AND YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH......TELL THE LORD THANK YOU.....FOR COMING AT THE RIGHT TIME AND SAVING ME.
Verse 7 then says, for scarcely for a righteous man will one die. Meaning I don’t care how good you are.....very few of us would take a bullet for another person. You’re not going to step in and take the blunt of the punishment. But consider Jesus, he stepped out of glory, put on a human flesh, he took opposition, he took rejection, he took criticisism. But most of all, he took our sins and he nailed it to his cross. He took our punish for us, he tasted wrath so that we won’t have to take wrath. He was judged so we wouldn’t be judged. When I say judged, everyone will have to stand before the judgement seat of Christ to give an account of the things done in their body. But when you believed on Him, when you repented of your sins, when he filled you with the Holy Ghost, he made a way for you to escape the wrath and judgement of God!
Verse 8 then says “But God......just holler at someone and say “But God”......I’ve done a lot of wrong things in my life BUT GOD.......didn’t always make the right decision.......BUT GOD.........didn’t always say the right thing.........BUT GOD! Commendeth his love, he showed his great love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Verse 9 then says “much more.......how much more then, being now justified by his blood. I gotta stop there. To tell you, that you’re not justified by what you do, your not justified by what you say or what you don’t say.......THE BLOOD OF JESUS JUSTIFIED YOU......THE BLOOD OF JESUS WASHED YOU, THE BLOOD OF JESUS MADE YOU RIGHT IN HIS SIGHT! AND BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN JUSTIFIED BY HIS BLOOD, WE SHALL BE SAVED........WE SHALL BE SAVED........I DON’T HEAR NO PRAISE OFF THAT RIGHT THERE.......WE SHALL BE SAVED........IF YOU ARE EXCITED ABOUT WHAT THE LORD IS GETTING READY TO DO......JUST TELL SOMEONE “I SHALL BE SAVED”......SAVED FROM WHAT? FROM WRATH THROUGH HIM......SAVED FROM GOD’S CONDEMNATION.
I like what the NLT says, “For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son, while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
SO NOW WE CAN REJOICE, SO NOW WE CAN REJOICE, SO NOW WE CAN REJOICE IN OUR WONDERFUL NEW RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD BECAUSE OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST HAS MADE US FRIENDS OF GOD......HOW THROUGH HIS DEATH BURIAL AND RESURRECTION.
THAT IS WHY WE ARE HERE TONIGHT TO CELEBRATE......WE DO SHOW FORTH HIS DEATH UNTIL HE COMES!
THE LORD MET US WHERE WE WERE AT!
