He’s My Son
He’s My Son
1 John 3:13–18 • John 3:9–15
9 Nicodemus responded and said to Him, “How can these things be?”
10 Jesus answered and said to him, “You are the teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things?
11 Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know and testify of what we have seen, and you people do not accept our testimony.
12 If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13 No one has ascended into heaven, except He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.
14 And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15 so that everyone who believes will have eternal life in Him.
John 3:1
Love:
results in a gift of oneself
God’s gift is not a prized possession - sit on a shelf and collect dust
gift is a his own Son
precious and dear
intimacy
John 1:1 We discover that Jesus is God
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:18 We find out Jesus is the only one who has seen the Father
18 No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.
John 5:19 The Son is so interwoven with the Father, that Jesus does NOTHING except what the Father tells him to do...
19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.
John 17:20-23 listen to this “swirl of love" between the Father, Son, and us!
20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.
22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.
23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.
ASIDE: Did you know YOU ARE MENTIONED IN SCRIPTURE? … BY JESUS?!!!
Listen to John 17:20 again...
20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.
You were prayed for by Jesus, and it’s record in the Scriptures.
You are part of the “swirl of love” with the Father and the Son.
In that swirl of love, there is a Shared Agony.
Ever had your child go through something horrible?
"I would do anything if I could take this instead of my child!"

SONG INTRO
Mark Schultz was a youth director for 8 years before he became a Christian recording artist in the late 1990s.
One of the kids in his youth group started having trouble with one hand. When the dad took his son to the doctor, they discovered there was nothing wrong with his hand. His pain was being caused by Leukemia.
The family endured a year and a half of treatments, and never knew if their son would survive or not. Imagine the sleepless nights … the internal torment of not being able to fix what was wrong for your son.
His dad would wake up in the middle of the night, and go into his son’s room and pray over him, “Dear God, this is my son. Give me his cancer. Take me. Don’t take my son.”
Mark says this song was written by God, and he just happened to be in the room.

He’s My Son
He’s My Son
Pre-existent, eternal Son
became the infinite sacrifice
to grant eternal intimacy between Father and Son and you
The Father gave himSELF!!!!
Romans 5:8
8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.
God made his Son the substitution for you. The source of our judgment, is also the source of God’s love, mercy and grace!
He’s My Son
He’s My Son
God showed us what love is when he loved you and me with His own Son … he loved you in action … he love you with sacrifice … God loved you with himself!
The Lord has regarded my helpless estate, and has shed his own blood for my soul!
