Introduction
The Roman Road Mixer (Heaven and Hell Reality Check)
(Question) What does this picture show us?
(Answer) For me, it reveals the reality of a teaching of Christ…
“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
This weeks lesson is about a practical and easy way to share the Gospel, the Roman Road.
Outline
Let’s travel down this road and see how it leads us to the cross along the way.
All have sinned
as it is written: “There is no righteous person, not even one;
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
This is a biblical truth - ‘As it is written…’
Sin is universal - ‘…all have…’
Everyone has missed the mark - ‘…come short of the glory of God…’ (picture word meaning missing the mark)
There is a penalty for sin
For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Just as you earn a wage for work, we earn a wage for our sin
The wage of sin is death
Physical death
Spiritual death (Dead in our trespasses and sin)
Eternal death (Separated from God for eternity)
The penalty has been paid, if we will accept that payment
For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The penalty of our sin was paid by Christ - ‘…Christ died for us…’
The penalty of our sin was paid while we were enemies of God - ‘…while we were yet sinners…’
The payment for our sin was a gift from God revealing His love for us, His creation - ‘…but the gift of God is…But God commendeth His love toward us…’
You Must Believe and Confess
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
One must believe from the heart
One must believe that Jesus is God’s Son
One must believe that Jesus died for their sins
One must believe that God raised Jesus from the dead
One must confess with their the mouth the same
You must call
for “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Salvation is available to all
One must cry out to Jesus
for forgiveness of sin
to become Lord and Savior
in faith
