Who are the Nephilim of Gen 6:4?
Genesis 6:1–4 (ESV)
When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives
--
any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and
--
they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. To Enoch
--
was born Irad, and Irad fathered Mehujael, and Mehujael fathered Methushael, and Methushael fathered Lamech. And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah,

and the name of the other Zillah. Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. His brother’s name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe.

--
“Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”

Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.
•What type of people
•Make it through
•Last day events?
•The commandments
• hedge of protection.
• Not new...
•God said Abraham
•kept His commandments.
•They aren’t new,
•but God wrote them down
•for Israel,
•and for us.
Lets Review them...
Commandment 1
1
•"You shall have no other gods before Me."
•That seems reasonable.
2
•The second commandment;
•"You shall not make for yourself a carved image. You shall not bow down to them nor serve them."
•Idols don’t help
•Us worship God.
3
•Commandment 3 states,
•"You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain."
•We do not denigrate
•or belittle God.
4
•The fourth commandment
•is about
•time for and with God;
•"Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy."
5
•Commandment five,
•"Honor your father and your mother."
•God wants to protect
•the family and society.
6
•The sixth commandment says,
•"You shall not murder."
sure hope
we agree on this one!
not be friend anymore.
7
•Seven:
•"You shall not commit adultery."
Don’t want share
your spouse with others
say amen.
8
•Commandment eight:
•"You shall not steal."
pretty straight forward
should all agree
9
Commandment nine says don't lie,
"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor."
10
The tenth commandment is often forgotten.
"Thou shalt not covet."
Law mirror picture
•Which one is terrible?
•The are all
•Great principles
•When we break them
•Peace is lost
•When folks lie
•you can't trust.
•That's destabilizing.
•When there is violence,
•you live in fear.
•When there's dishonor
•In the family.
•There is fragmentation.
•God gave us
•the Ten Commandments
• for our good.
• They work!
•When you violate them,
•you begin - experience
•guilt and doubt
•and shame and alienation,
• stress,
•discord, and
•disconnection.
•But when you live
• in harmony with
•God's principles,
•there's harmony
•between you and God,
•and Other people
•James 2:12 says
So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.
•The Bible says
•God's law is
•a law of liberty.
•When you live in harmony
•with God's law,
•you are free from
•guilt,
•shame,
•condemnation,
•ill feelings
•God's law is
•a law of freedom.
•But what if we
•Don’t want to do
•God’s law?
I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart.”
•Look at what David said in
•When God’s law,
•Written on our heart
•We want to obey.
•new covenant experience.
•God says, "I'll take My law, I will put it in your mind and write it in your heart."
Some people say,
I don’t keep God’s law
Because I’m a
New Covenant Christian.
•Where does the Bible
•Talk about the New Covenant?
•In the OT!
Jeremiah 31:31–34 (ESV)
“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord:
--
I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”
This explains,
The New Covenant
Is not getting rid of the
Ten Commandments
Instead
It is truly living them
God writes them
On our heart
The Ten Commandments act
like a hedge of protection
around you.
God makes us free
through Jesus,
and then
He wants to keep you free.
Matthew 5:17–18 (ESV)
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
--
For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
•Jesus was strong on this.
He did not want to see
•God's law changed
•or harmed in any way.
•He knew the
•Ten Commandments
•are good for people
•and good for society.
•He didn't want to
•change the law.
•He wanted to
•change our hearts.
•That's what Jesus came
•into the world to do.
•God’s law does
•several things.
•It’s to show us
•what God is like.
•God's law is
•a transcript of His character.
•Secondly,
•it’s shows us
•what sin is.
For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
•The law is a mirror.
•It just shows us
•When we are heading
•The wrong direction.
But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
What does that mean?
Speed Limit Sign
•Some years ago
•there was no speed limit
•on freeways
•in the state of Montana.
•The law said
•you could drive
•as fast as you wanted,
•- driving conditions.
•The Bible says
•where there's no law,
•there's no transgression.
•In Montana it wasn't illegal
•to drive 90
•on the freeway.
•Therefore,
•there was no transgression.
Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness.
•The existence of sin
•demonstrates the existence
•of God’s law.
•There can be no such thing
•as sin without it.
•Are there any
•sinners here today?
•Okay,
•then there must
•be a law too.
•Or you would
•not be a sinner.
Cracked Law
•After looking at
•the 10 Commandments.
•Most people could not
•understand why
•Some say they are
•done away with.
•For example...
•In reality,
•Christians the world over
•do not have a problem
•with 10 commandments.
•They like them all.......
•except one!
•Christians seem to
• 4th commandment.
Exodus 20:8–11 (ESV)
“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.
--
On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.
--
For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
•Many Christians have
•a hard time with
•this commandment
•because they realize
•they are not doing
•what it says.
•So they come up with
•all kinds arguments
•and theological gymnastics
•to explain away
•all the commandments
•or just the 4th one.
•Here are some common
•false teachings....
•One of the most common:
•People say,
•“I'm not under the law
•I'm under grace.”
•Let me tell you a story.

Sabbath Day
•Others say,
•Sunday is the Sabbath.
•or...
•The Bible says
•it is the Lord's day...
•Let's read a couple of verses.
I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet
•There is only one verse
•with the phrase
•“the Lord's day.”
•It is in Revelation.
•The verse does not explain
•exactly which day of the week
• that is.
•But there is another
•verse that may help here.
For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.”
•Jesus plainly says,
•the day that He is Lord of
•is the Sabbath.
•So, “the Lord's day
•is the Sabbath.”
•But you may ask,
•which day of the week
•is the Sabbath?
•The bible explains this clearly
•in the story of
•the death,
•burrial and
•resurrection of Jesus.
Days of the Week
First day
Second Day
Third Day
Fourth Day
Fifth Day
Preparation Day
Sabbath
And when evening had come, since it was the day of Preparation, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a respected member of the council, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God, took courage and went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
According to this,
what day was it
when Jesus died?
Preparation day –
the sixth day of the week.
skipping a few verses
into the next chapter....
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.
•According to this,
•Jesus died on preparation day.
•This was the day before the Sabbath.
•The next day
•he rested in the tomb,
•which was Sabbath.
•Then,
•he resurrected on
•the first day of the week.
•We all know what day
•of the week Jesus resurrected
•we celebrated it each year.
•We call it
•Easter... what..?
•Sunday!!!
•So clearly,
•we see from the Bible.
•Sunday is
•the first day of the week
•(which we already knew)
•and Sabbath is
•the day before that,
•the seventh day of the week,
•which we call Saturday.
Empty Tomb
•Clearly, the Sabbath is
•Saturday not Sunday.
•Still some people say,
•“I keep Sunday in honor of
•the Lord's resurrection on that day.”
•Okay. That is nice,
•but where in the Bible
•does God ask us to do that?
•The answer is: now where...
Disciples on Mount
Some say,
followers of Jesus
started keeping Sunday
shortly after Jesus death...
Did they? Lets See...
And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

Why is Paul keeping Sabbath
Because he is Jewish?

•More than any other.

•Additionally, people say,
•“does it really matter?”
•“You keep one day.
•I keep another.
•I could keep Tuesday holy.
•God just wants us
•to keep one day holy. “
•Some say,
I keep the Sabbath

•God picked for us.
Little Church
•At this point,
•many people get confused
•and even a little upset.
•If we are supposed to
•be keeping Saturday holy,
•why is almost every church
•keeping Sunday holy?
•Good question...
•Could just a hand full
•of churches be correct
•vs. the thousands
•that keep Sunday?

Garden of Eden
God created the world in 6 days.
Then on the 7th day…
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
