Abraham, Isaac, and the Scarafice (Willing to Sacrifice)
Genesis 22:1–24 (ESV): The Sacrifice of Isaac
22 After these things God tested Abraham and said to him, “Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 2 He said, “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” 3 So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him. 4 On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar. 5 Then Abraham said to his young men, “Stay here with the donkey; I and the boy will go over there and worship and come again to you.” 6 And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So they went both of them together. 7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
9 When they came to the place of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then Abraham reached out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him, for now I know that you fear God, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.” 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”
Obandance Leads us to Provision
Isaiah 1:19 (ESV): 19 If you are willing and obedient,
you shall eat the good of the land;
Most of the time this is where the sermon ends…. We know this story, but we are looking for something different. Notice what God tells Abram
15 And the angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16 and said, “By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore. And your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies.
Obedience leads us to Blessings
Luke 11:28 (ESV): 28 But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
What Does Obedience Look Like
John 14:15 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
If We Truly Love God We will Obey Him
James 1:22 (ESV): 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
We Obey God by Doing What His Word Tells Us To Do
1 Samuel 15:22 (ESV): 22 And Samuel said,
“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to listen than the fat of rams.
Obedience is better than every Scarface or offering you can Give
Obadenace leads us to encounter God…. Leads us to Holy Ground
Obedeance in our life, leads to obedence in the lifes around us.
Holy Ground around us leads to a Holy Family

some great items to be remembered, some are negitive Just like us, we have many things that are good, and many that are not. God loves us throught it and helps us to fix it.
Where we are in scripture today. Jacob has gotten a message saying that his brother, how he cheated are coming to him.
His thinking is that Esau is coming to kill him. to get back at him for sealing his blessing and his inhreantance.
He begain to pray to God in his fear,
22 The same night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. 23 He took them and sent them across the stream, and everything else that he had. 24 And Jacob was left alone. And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he touched his hip socket, and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 Then he said, “Let me go, for the day has broken.” But Jacob said, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” 27 And he said to him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Jacob.” 28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29 Then Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” But he said, “Why is it that you ask my name?” And there he blessed him. 30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life has been delivered.” 31 The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip. 32 Therefore to this day the people of Israel do not eat the sinew of the thigh that is on the hip socket, because he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip on the sinew of the thigh.
Jacob Kept fighting.
He was knew what he wanted and when presseed was open on what he wanted
He identified himself as Jacob ( lier, decever)
The Angel changed his name to Isreal because He was a fighter
He Knew who he was facing and reconigized God.
He left Changed not just phyical, but mental and spiritual. No longer the same person.
God is still God of Abraham, Isaic and Jacob.
but when we fight for our blessing.... when we know what you are fighing for.. and persistant with God.... you can get face to face with God, and let that holy place change who you really are.
