Just want to give a special shot out to those who participated in the yard sale.
A JEWish wedding in Florida asking Bennit how did you enjoy the service he said boring as always . How is your experience at church?
Carol Riddell describes life there as ‘a spiritual supermarket, with all kinds of different “products” on the shelves to sample’. She provides a bewildering list of what these ‘products’ might include: Buddhism, Yoga, Ta’i Chi, Sufism, Transcendental Meditation, organic food, past-life therapy, A Course in Miracles, as well as various elements from the Christian tradition. She goes on to indicate that ‘all this makes up what has been described as the “new age” movement’.
the New Age will forever be linked with Hollywood actress Shirley Maclaine and her TV mini-series, Out on a Limb, which portrayed the New Age not as a concern of social drop-outs, but as the playground of the rich and the famous, searching for a spiritual dimension to life because they already had everything else.
I love the Bible because the Bible reveals to us that theres nothing new under the sun.
Life events, situations only appear to be new but its not new.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 NKJV
9 That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.
What has been will happen again.
Theres Nothing that you are going through right now will gain eternal fame. Nothing!
That sin will not linger on into eternity.
The fact that theres nothing new under the sun doesn’t contradict technological advances. Or that fact that we can remember names like Homer, Caesar and Shakespeare.
The fundamental events of life (birth, marriage, work, death, etc.) remain unchanged. The desire for something new is the desire for something that alters the nature of life in the world.
Cars, computers, and jet airplanes may have made some things easier and faster.
But the core essential things in nature as for us and our predecessors, the sun rises and sets; the rivers run their courses; and people continue their endless quest for fame, power, and happiness even as they move steadily toward death. The vast majority of people never achieve lasting fame, while those who do gain nothing by it.
Everything that is in the world and of the world has happened before. But the only thing thats new is the One who didn't come from the world but came from heaven.
Everything else in the world doesn’t have a lasting satisfaction only Christ do we have a new thing.
John 8:23 NKJV
23 And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:31–32 NKJV
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
What it means to abide means “to continue”, “remain”, to “hold on to” .
The meaning here involves knowing Jesus as truth, who brings a transforming sense of freedom in your life.
This verse is not advocating nor disparaging academics. Nor is it advocating just mere information or doctrine about Jesus.
I’m intrigue by new study’s some of the technologies. Some of the things we are doing at the church to impact the digital space.
But if I can be transparent with you a mature believer doesn’t need the lights the TVs . Doesn’t need the quality on the interview. We do this for the immature. A mature believe just need the Word of God the church . See all of these things that we are doing are for the immature the co worker who is used to going to a lil wayne concert and has the attention span of a 5 year. Be in reality a mature believer doesn’t need any of this stuff. Truthfully .
But it is a statement about a living relationship with the Son of God ‘The truth’ Who gives freedom to human beings.
Allot of times we don’t read the Bible because we question its relevancy.
“Modern men and women, with all their cleverness, are incapable of inventing a new sin. The worse forms of evil and vice are to be found somewhere within the Bible. Nothing new under the sun!”
David Martyn Lloyd-Jones
A Nation under Wrath, 105
Acts 17:16–18 NKJV
16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols. 17 Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the Gentile worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there. 18 Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, “What does this babbler want to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,” because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.
The Jewish people from Thessalonica heard that Paul, Silas and Timothy were preaching in Berea they got upset and started to incite the crowd to go against them .
So those who where assign to look out after Paul brought him to Athens and so Paul was waiting for Timothy and Silas.
But while Paul was waiting he started preaching In the market place also know as “the center of civic life.”
There where these stoic philosophers there who debated and presented their views.
The stoics where “the Pharisees of Greek paganism.”
The stoics where founded by a guy named Zeno, who flourished about BC 300. He taught his disciples that a mans happiness consisted in bringing himself into harmony with the course of the universe.
Does this sound familiar ?
The STOICS are our classic new age thinkers.
All truth is relative. What true for you is true for you and whats true for me is true for me.
That voliates the law of non contradiction . Two things that oppose each other can’t be true at the same time.
When you give people you testimony and they say “I love that for you”
As if God somehow just worked on your behalf and He can’t do the same for them.
Acts 17:19–21 NKJV
19 And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? 20 For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean.” 21 For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.
Acts 17:22–23 NKJV
22 Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, “Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; 23 for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:
Acts 17:24–34 NKJV
24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’ 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man’s devising. 30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, 31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.” 32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, “We will hear you again on this matter.” 33 So Paul departed from among them. 34 However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
How can something like Gold which is less and more inferior make someone as unique and as a complex as man.
How can a job or a career which is made and orcahsted by man be the reason you where created. Someone who is moore superior and more complex then that job.
How can something less inferior give you meaning.
But its God who gives meaning and purpose in Him we live move and have our being!!!
In Him!!
