I know it wasn’t long ago that I read from Psalm 145 as our call to worship.  I’m reading it again today for the purpose of drawing our attention to what this great Psalm has to say about who we gather to worship.

Psalm 145:1-7

A Psalm of Praise, of David.

1     I will extol You, my God, O King,

And I will bless Your name forever and ever.

2     Every day I will bless You,

And I will praise Your name forever and ever.

3     Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised,

And His greatness is unsearchable.

4     One generation shall praise Your works to another,

And shall declare Your mighty acts.

5     On the glorious splendor of Your majesty

And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.

6     Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts,

And I will tell of Your greatness.

7     They shall eagerly utter the memory of Your abundant goodness

And will shout joyfully of Your righteousness.

This Psalm is a pledge to continually praise God’s name; To praise God’s name is to praise Him for who He is; For His majesty—His beauty, and His greatness; Not only do we praise Him, but we pass this deep affection on to the next generation; We teach our children that to praise God is the greatest privilege imaginable; We join our voices with the chorus of saints who, through the ages, have made praising God their highest calling.

Rejoice always; Pray without ceasing; In everything give thanks.

Why?  For this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
