Introduction

The foundation of the world is one of the most important things we have to get right as believers. If we can’t trust the biblical account of creation, how can we trust the biblical account of salvation.
By God’s spoken word the earth was creation over the course of 6 twenty-four hour days. The world is not billions of years old it is around 6000 years old. The bible clearly proves that fact and so does earth’s geology, biology, paleontology, and even astronomy.
On day 1 God created the hydrosphere. It would of been a watery mass that was transformed into a ball of rotating water as the Spirit of the Lord moved upon the face of the water.
This evening we will look at the second of three messages on “the foundation of the world” as we look at days 2-6 of creation.

Day 2 vs. 6-8

On Day two God creates the atmosphere. The purpose of the atmosphere is to protect earth from things that had not even been created yet.
Jer. 10:12 “He hath made the earth by his power, He hath established the world by his wisdom, And hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.”
Firmament is the expanse or even canopy between upper atmosphere water and the water on earth.
It is amazing to think about the organization of creation. Everything was made in the proper order and our creator took great care in creating the world.
It’s also amazing to think about how when God created the earth it was perfect. It was kept at a perfect temperature and had the correct amount of moisture in the air to make sure everything grew. There was no need for rain due to the almost canopy like thing around the earth at that time.
God divided the water from the heaven and the water from the earth.
Prov. 8:27-29 “When he prepared the heavens, I was there: When he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: When he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, That the waters should not pass his commandment: When he appointed the foundations of the earth:”
Ps 148:4 “Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, And ye waters that be above the heavens.”
There is biblical evidence that proves day 2 of creation.
Notice God said in verse 6 and the phrase it was so in verse 7. Creation even obeyed the voice of God.
Day 2 gives us more details into Genesis 1:1 telling us what the heaven was.

Day 3 Vs. 9-13

On day three God created the lithosphere and began working on the biosphere
the Lithosphere is earths crust and upper mantle
The biosphere is the part of earth that is inhabited by living organisms
Here God created dry ground and then used it to separate the waters.
Job 26:10 “He hath compassed the waters with bounds, Until the day and night come to an end.”
Ps 24:1-2 “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; The world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, And established it upon the floods.”
Ps 95:5 “The sea is his, and he made it: And his hands formed the dry land.”
God formed the dry land with His hands.
In verse 10 God defines here what he meant by earth in Genesis 1:1.
He also gave us the name of the waters that were underneath the heavens, he called them seas.
God saw that it was good, again because this was before the curse of sin came to earth.
On day three God created plants and trees as well.
Notice again the order in creation. God created fully developed plants and trees that would produce their own seed, that would continue producing plants and continues to produce plants to this day.
Another thing to look at is that trees produced fruit after their own kind. It wasn’t a peach tree that produced pecans, or a fig tree that produced olives. There was and is still order in creation.
When God saw all the things he created on day three, he saw that it was good.

Day 4 vs. 14-19

On day 4 God created the sun, moon and the stars.
He gave 2 light to divide the day and night on day four. These light would help them understand the concept of time.
They would be for signs: The stars aren’t just randomly placed, people would use them for navigation, the constellations were signs not in an astrological sense but in the evangelical sense. They were ancient promises of a coming saviour and the restoration of the fallen creation.
They would know the seasons: Winter, spring, summer and fall
They would know days: 7 days a week
They would understand years
God gave us the sun to rule the day “The greater light”
God gave us the moon to rule the night “The lesser light”
God also created the stars, and the Bible tells us that God knows the stars by name.
God was so in tune with his creation that he knows the innumerable stars by their names.
God set the Sun, moon and stars in the firmament to give us light in the earth.
set- To put, place or fix in any situation.
God placed the sun moon and stars exactly where they wanted them
ex. setting the table.
God looked at the sun, moon and stars and saw they were good.

Day 5 vs. 20-23

On day 5 God continued on the Biosphere creating birds and sea life.
The birds were meant to fly in the open firmament on Earth.
God created birds and he knows cares so much for them that he even knows when they fall.
If God cares that much for a bird how much more does he care for you and I?
God created sea life.
I don’t think its coincidental that God mentioned great whales in creation and then used a great whale to get Jonah back on track. Jesus used that as an example of Him going in the grave for three days.
Remember what you create you control.
God saw that it was good and then gives the creatures their first command.
Be fruitful and multiply in the earth. God created fully mature fish and sea life that could reproduce and fill the earth. God had a plan.

Day 6 vs. 24-31

On day 6 God will finish the creation of the Biosphere with his crown jewel of creation, mankind.
God created animals in fully mature state and everything was made after their own kind.
God looked at everything he had created up to this point and saw that it was good.
Vs. 26 is one of the key verses again proving that the trinity was there when the world was created
And God said
Let us (Father, Son and Holy Spirit)
Make man (singular)
In our (Father, son and holy spirit) image.
When God made man he was made in the image of a holy God.
He gave man dominion over everything that he had created vs.26
Vs. 27 we see that God made man and woman and we will see next week more details into that event of creation.
God blessed man and woman and told them to be fruitful and multiple.
Then he again tells them to have dominion over everything moving creature he had made on the earth.
He provided food for them
He gave them the fruit of the trees
he gave them the greens of the earth
God saw everything that he had made and saw that it was not just Good it was very good.

Day 7 2:1-3

Day 7 God created a day of rest.
God blessed the seventh day and set it apart for a day of rest from the work that had been done.
I’m not a big fan of rest, but rest is a biblical thing. Our bodies need rest.
If God rested we should rest.

Conclusion

God created everything in a specific order. He knew exactly what he was doing. We can’t allow the world to steal what God did and lead us to believe this world was created by some goo.
Henry Morris said this “you either believe in eternal goo or an Eternal God” I’ll believe God every time.
