Intro

what emotion are you most often described as having?
why?
Jesus is most often described as having compassion- what is it?

Raising the Widows’ Son- Luke 7

a horrible circumstance
Jesus is doing a lot of healing and the crowds are following around him as he goes
what does Jesus compassion look like? Is it an emotion?
Jesus sees this circumstance that only he can make better and bring hope and life to
splanxnizomai- he is moved from his guts
because of this, because of his compassion, God is glorified

The Good Samaritan- Luke 10

in a question about living
who is my neighbor is asked but the answer is to be a neighbor yourself
the Samaritan has compassion, same word used to describe Jesus previously and many times elsewhere
if you want to live, to have life and to spread it as God has called us to do, we have to have real compassion
to look beyond our sleves and our comforts
that one person that we are to reach at a time needs more than just your sympathy
more than just a nice thought
they need you to have compassion and...

Application

everytime Jesus has compassion, he has compassion and...
people need more than simply to be thought or spoken about kindly
just like we talked about faith on Thursday, it is dead and meaningless if there is no action
compassion and sympathy are related but not equal
one makes me feel better, the other makes a difference in someone elses life
sympathy is in my nature, compassion is Jesus example
