Reliance on God

What did we talk about 2 weeks ago? RECOGNITION OF SIN
What did we talk about last week. LIFE OF REPENTANCE
This week we will talk about RELIANCE ON GOD
There are those of you that may need to place reliance on God for his saving work through Jesus Christ at the cross. You still need to be saved. Your still in darkness, your still lost, you have not placed Jesus as Lord of your life.
Then there are those of you that have placed Reliance on God for his saving work and need to “NOW” rely on God for his continued work in your life through the work of the Holy Spirit, through God’s Word, and prayer.
Let’s take a look at John 13:1-17

Salvation

John 13:1–17 (ESV)
Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.” For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”
When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you. Truly, truly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
I use to look at verse 8…Jesus answered “If I do not wash you, you have no share or part with me.”.....I’d look at that verse and think Jesus was referring to Salvation. I thought Jesus was being symbolic here. I thought he was saying if he doesn’t wash you with his blood at the cross then your won’t be saved......But that’s not what he’s saying.
Foot washings - We as Christians need to rely on Jesus not only for our salvation but for our daily foot washings. We sin on a daily basis, we need to be in prayer and get into our Bibles to receive our footwashing....our cleansing, OUR DAILY BREAD.

I need 5 Volunteers.

Not only are we to receive a footwashing from our Lord on a daily basis, but we are also called to wash each others feet. We are to love and care for our fellow believers in Christ. To carry each other’s burdens, to help, encourage and sharpen each other. We are to be “Jesus” to others.
-Baptism - Baptism symbolizes, when a person makes the decision to follow Jesus publically. It is declaring Jesus is my Lord. It’s saying “I’m with Jesus”
-Communion - Communion symbolizes Jesus Death and Resurrection and we do communion in remembrance of what he did for us at the cross.
-Tonight we are going to wash each others feet. - Symbolizing that we are going to grow in the Lord together. We are going to invest, help, and sharpen each other. If you make the decision to wash another person’s feet…What your saying is this, “I am going to do life with you. I am going to help you, care about you, and with God’s help make you more like Jesus.”
WASH FEET
-Some of you are really good in Math....Your going to help the person whose not good in math. Some of you will see someone getting picked on for their looks, or something else and your going to befriend that person because that’s what Jesus would do. Some of you will feel pressured into doing something you shouldn’t, And you won’t do it because you will have people here that will stand along side you in the battles. Guys here is an opportunity to say to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ that we are going to do life together.
Some of you may not be saved!

SALVATION

Some of you may be drowning in this world of sin and my question for you is. Are you saved? Are you going to heaven? If someone came to you and asked what is this free gift of salvation. How do you explain it to them? What does someone have to do in order to be saved?
Romans 3:23 (ESV)
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 5:8 ESV
but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 6:23 (ESV)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:1 ESV
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 10:9–11 (ESV)
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
Romans 10:13 (ESV)
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
If you want to know more about what it means to be saved. Let’s talk....grab a leader and let’s have that conversation. Don’t put it off. OK>>>>>
