God's Divine protection in times of trouble

Notes
Transcript

Defend: resist an attack made on (someone/something); protect from harm or danger

Last week (4.) Face the Enemy

Winners run in to battle, but cowards run away. Don’t be a coward!

1. What Happens when the battle runs to you?

Matthew 11:12 CSB
From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been suffering violence, and the violent have been seizing it by force.

The Battle vs The Promise

Isaiah 54:17 KJV 1900
No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; And every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

2. Why does it feel like the weapon is prospering?

A. Even though the weapon won’t prosper; attack can still come

B. Even though the weapon won’t prosper; trouble can still come

C. If God didn't STOP the attack, His plan is to Defend you IN the attack

Stronghold: A place that has been fortified so as to protect it against attack:

Nahum 1:7 ESV
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.
Psalm 9:9 ESV
The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Psalm 18:2 ESV
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

3. God as Defender is a different level of Power

Provider vs Protector

Proverbs 18:10 CSB
The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.

4. God Defender of Man

Hamas vs Israel

Psalm 124 ESV
A Song of Ascents. Of David. If it had not been the Lord who was on our side— let Israel now say— if it had not been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their anger was kindled against us; then the flood would have swept us away, the torrent would have gone over us; then over us would have gone the raging waters. Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth! We have escaped like a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
