Saved by Grace
Romans 3 part 2
I would like to continue with our new series on the book of Romans.
This book is considered Paul’s masterpiece, a very well-constructed summary of Christian Theology.
Considered by many one of the most important books ever written on the Christian faith.
Romans is a message that all people everywhere, have access to the riches of God’s grace in Christ Jesus, as they respond in faith to the gospel.
Good news is about a God who loves us, sinners, law breakers, enemies of God, He loves us so much that He sent His only son to pay for the penalties of our sins, to died our death, to set us free from the power of sin and death and give us eternal life.
On Chapter 1, We began by presenting the Gospel.
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
Rom 1:17 For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
1:18 -2 God’s judgement is against gentiles , the self-righteous, and the religious self-righteous.
3 :1-20 His judgment is against everyone who sins.
Saved by Grace
Rom 3:21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
1 Righteousness of God
1 Righteousness of God
the word righteousness means, God’s approval or being considered right in his eyes. He is Our supreme Judge.
A righteousness That comes from God, a righteousness that satisfies God,
Righteousness is an attribute of the character of God, a conformity to God’s law, and to God’s demands, is that what is acceptable to God, has God’s approval.
Rom 3:22 This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
I checked the word all, it means all, any, everybody, the whole. Everyone in this whole world sinned, we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God.
2 We are Justified
2 We are Justified
Rom 3:24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Justified declared or made righteous in the sight of God. By His grace through the
Redemption the ransom in full, deliverance that came by Christ Jesus.
The ex Hell’s angel student
Many years ago I had a student who was a former Hell’s angels
He was attending a counseling school, after a week of teaching on repentance and forgiveness, I was praying for the students, when this big men 6’9 stood up and came to me, so I could pray for him, but when he was In front of me he fell on his knees and asked me can Jesus forgive me, for all my sins?, this guy was a money collector for the Hell’s Angels, not a nice guy, if you didn’t pay him, he would blow your head off right there, violence, Hamas was normal to him.
My answer to him and to you is.
Let me tell you what I told him, it doesn’t matter what you have done the sacrifice of Jesus was perfect good enough to forgive you for all your sins and justify you, as if you never done it.
He was a mess and needed a lot of work, but God loved him and was working in his life.
For him to be free he had to give many names, a couple years later they found him, and killed him, but he was forgiven and free.
You are forgiven.
3 Atonement
3 Atonement
Rom 3:25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
Atonement in the Old Testament is a different word then in the New testament, the essential meaning is to cover our sin, they recognized their sins confess their sins, repent and would present a sacrifice every year to cover for their sins. Jewish people still observe this holiday, Yom Kippur, the Jewish holiday, centers on atonement and repentance. Would not remove their guilt of sin, or deal with their sin, but would cover their sin until the next year.
In the New Testament the word used for atonement is about reconciliation, the restoration of a friendly relationship with God.
God is not angry with us; Jesus satisfied His wrath against evil. We don’t owe Him anything, He wants to have a loving relationship with us.
Jesus was introduced by John the Baptist this way.
Joh 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
His perfect sacrifice did Not only cover our sins for a year, but His sacrifice takes away the sin of the world.
Propitiation, the action of propitiating or appeasing God, a expiatory sacrifice.
Jesus took our place at the cross,
Isa 53:3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
Isa 53:4 But [in fact] He has borne our griefs, And He has carried our sorrows and pains; Yet we [ignorantly] assumed that He was stricken, Struck down by God and degraded and humiliated [by Him]. [Mat_8:17]
Isa 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
At the cross Jesus took upon himself our diseases, sickness, our sorrow and pains, He was pierced for our rebellion, trespasses, he was crushed for our addictions our repetitive sin, the punishment that gave us peace was upon him, and by His wounds, bruises stripes, hurts we are healed
Forbearance, self-restrain, tolerance
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God loved us, He gave His only son to pay for our sins, and the consequences of our sins, to appease His wrath against all evil, Jesus die our death and gave us eternal life.
Rom 3:26 he did it to demonstrate his righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.
Justified declared or made righteous in the sight of God.
Rom 3:27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith.
Rom 3:28 For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law.
Rom 3:29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too,
Rom 3:30 since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.
4 We uphold the law.
4 We uphold the law.
Rom 3:31 Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.
The law is fulfilled in Christ,
means Jesus satisfied all the requirements of the law in our behalf,
by faith in Jesus, who lived a perfect life, died for our sins, rose from the dead and gave us eternal life, we are part of the new covenant.
We uphold the law.
Saved by Grace
We receive the Righteousness of God
We are Justified.
We are reconciled.
We uphold the law.
Have you asked Jesus to be your Lord and Savior? Let me give you an opportunity to do so.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Joh 3:16
To receive Him we need to accept Him as God’s son, repent from our sins and a life of selfishness, asking Him to be your Lord and savior, not that you deserve it, but is a gift from God.
If this is your desire today, please repeat this prayer after me?
Heavenly Father I’m sinner, I’m sorry for my sins, I’m willing to turn away from my sins.
I receive Christ as my savior,
I confess him as Lord
from this moment on I want to follow and serve him,
in the fellowship of his church,
In Jesus name. Amen!
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.
1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Heb 9:14 dead works, acts, sins
E mau aku ka loko maika’i o ka Haku, Iesu Kristo; me ke aloha a ke Akua, a me ka launa pu ‘ana mai o ka Uhane Hemolele ia ‘olua, a me makou apau. Amene.
