A sermon for World Leaders (Joe Biden)

Who wrote this proverbs, King Solomon
Proverbs 29:2 CSB
When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan.
Introduction:
The call of leadership:
Leadership is a recurring theme in the Bible, often depicted through shepherds, judges, and kings.
Every Generation has leaders
Leadership comes with a profound responsibility to care for and guide those under your charge.
One of the primary metaphors by which biblical authors conceptualized leadership is shepherding.
Timothy Laniak
David says of God, Psalm 23:1
Psalm 23:1 CSB
The Lord is my shepherd; I have what I need.
Jesus, Himself says, John 10:11
John 10:11 CSB
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
As a world leader, you carry immense responsibility for the well-being of your nation and, to some extent, the world. Today, I'd like to share a message that is relevant not only to you but to leaders across the globe. It's a message about leadership, integrity, and the profound impact that leaders can have on the lives of their citizens.
To be a world leader is a position that God gives
Jesus before pilate, says, John 19:10-11
John 19:10–11 CSB
So Pilate said to him, “Do you refuse to speak to me? Don’t you know that I have the authority to release you and the authority to crucify you?” “You would have no authority over me at all,” Jesus answered him, “if it hadn’t been given you from above. This is why the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”
All authority given to You is from God and therefore there is a great accountability

The Weight of the call of Leadership

Who is the Faithful Servant?
This the question that Peter asks Jesus, wondering what was the meaning of the parable that Jesus had just spoken.
Jesus responds:
Luke 12:43 CSB
Blessed is that servant whom the master finds doing his job when he comes.
Luke 12:47–48 CSB
And that servant who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it will be severely beaten. But the one who did not know and did what deserved punishment will receive a light beating. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, even more will be expected.
The weight of Leadership is the understanding the authority that leaders are under.
God is the authority over all.
Jesus tells Pilate John 19:11
John 19:11 CSB
“You would have no authority over me at all,” Jesus answered him, “if it hadn’t been given you from above. This is why the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”
To understand the weight of your authority is to understand who gave you this authority and what is the purpose or calling that you have as a leader.
When you understand this you begin to ask the question of yourself and your reign “Will I be found faithful?”

The Importance of Integrity, Humility, and Justice

Domineering leadership and undemonstrative leadership are both bad.
Dan Williams
Being found faithful is taking characteristics of Jesus when it comes to leading and following His example:
Paul tells us:
Philippians 2:3–5 CSB
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others. Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
Jesus gives us the example of the Humble Servant and calls us to the same
John 13:15–17 CSB
For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you. “Truly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his master, and a messenger is not greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.
The position of power that you have been given is a call to lead like Christ.
Cause when we lead like Christ we are righteous and we prosper in our leadership, and that blessing flows to those who we shepherd.
When you seek justice, as God is the God of Justice, you bless those who you lead.
The Bible consistently calls for justice for the oppressed and marginalized. As a leader, you have a duty to uphold justice and protect the rights of all citizens.
When you lead out of Compassion taking care of the weak and the outcast, it blessing those who are under you.
and in turn creates the mentality of carrying for others
Cause this is how God has engaged mankind.
God has blessed those who are under His authority in many ways, the cross of Jesus as the primary way.
God has blessed you who are under Him.
When we were under the oppression of sin and death, God provided justice for us.
The leaders call is the same:
Psalm 82:3 CSB
Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless; uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.

Leadership Brings unity-

The strength of a Nation lies in the unity of it’s people:
A nation's strength lies in its unity and the ability to overcome divisions.
And the leadership of Nation unifies its people through exemplifying self sacrifice for the good of others
1 John 4:19 CSB
We love because he first loved us.
The examples that your leadership brings creates and example for the nation to follow.
Thus bringing a unity in purpose and in practice

Why we Fail

This is to be found unfaithful in the shepherding of the people of God it is to stand against God’s calling of what a shepherd should be.
Ezekiel 34:2 CSB
“Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy, and say to them, ‘This is what the Lord God says to the shepherds: Woe to the shepherds of Israel, who have been feeding themselves! Shouldn’t the shepherds feed their flock?
Ezekiel 34:7 CSB
“ ‘Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord.
these shpehrds that God is dealing with lead the people into slavery and bondage, fulfilling the second part of the opening verse
Proverbs 29:2 CSB
When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan.
A number of factors contribute to bad spiritual leadership.…
Absence of true spiritual experience. No one can lead another farther than he himself has gone. For many ministers this explains their failure to lead. They simply do not know where to go.
God Tells the Man Who Cares, 55, 56.
A. W. Tozer

Follow Jesus

Jesus says:
John 10:25–26 CSB
“I did tell you and you don’t believe,” Jesus answered them. “The works that I do in my Father’s name testify about me. But you don’t believe because you are not of my sheep.
As leaders you are both sheep and shepherds. To lead like Jesus you need to follow His voice, and His example
Because when you lead in righteousness, as God intended-
Proverbs 29:2 CSB
When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan.
