When Jesus comforted His disciples:
When Jesus comforted His disciples:
I’m honored to be here with you, as we remember the life of
In John 13, Jesus was among His disciples… and He knew that one was about to be betray Him.
When it was found out that Judas was the betrayer… He told those 12 disciples: ‘Little children, I am with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come.’
The disciples were taken back, and didn’t know what to make of what Jesus just said.
So Simon Peter raises his voice and cries out ‘Lord where are You going!? Why can I not follow You right now, I will lay my LIFE down for You!’
Jesus responds, with these comforting words:
John 14:1–4 (NASB95)
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.
2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
4 “And you know the way where I am going.”
Where was Jesus going? And what was it He was about to do?
He was about to be taken away
He was about to be beaten / scourged
He was about to be executed
He was about to be crucified.
Yet He gives the disciples encouragement that I believe may lift your spirit on this very day.
Do not let your heart be troubled
Do not let your heart be troubled
With the passing of Miss Nettie, do not let your heart be troubled. Letting someone go, is never easy! Especially with someone like Miss Nettie. But do not let your heart be troubled.
When Jesus spoke those words, He was not telling His disciples to be HAPPY, necessarily. But rather to be brave! To be courageous in times of despair!
My encouragement to you is this… Take time to mourn, but also be brave! Don’t let your heart be troubled.
Believe in God, Believe also in Me
Believe in God, Believe also in Me
It’s a wonderful thing how death brings together so many of us. Encouraging it is… for a time. But once we depart into our cars and our homes, I hope we never forget these words of Jesus… “Believe in God, believe also in Me”
With a firm belief in Jesus comes the belief that those who perish in Him shall LIVE! What purpose, what meaning shall we give to life without recognizing it’s creator / sustainer / savior!!
“Believe in God, believe also in Me.” For Christ died for the sins of the world… that when the time comes of your departure you greet it with open arms!
I go to prepare a place for you
I go to prepare a place for you
God prepares a place for His people. For those who believe in His Son, are baptized, and live as faithfully as they can to His word. There’s no greater encouragement, than to know that when life comes to an end, THEN life ETERNAL begins!
As we gather to dwell upon the life of Miss Nettie Floyd, may we remember her, her example, her life, and become better people by the life that she lived.
And may we remember our God in heaven
Be brave… Pursue faith… Maintain hope
