Intro
Point 1 - God knows everything
I am a trivia servant. I’m really good at trivia. I want to see if anyone can stump me in trivia.
Take three questions. Then google.
In a world of the internet, youtube, and AI, we have more access to information than anyone before us.
But there is some things that we do not know. We can’t read people’s minds. We don’t know why people feel things the way they feel (Science can’t fully explain how).
But God knows everything. But take my word for it.
Luke 12:7 (ESV)
Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered...
Psalm 147:4 ESV
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
Daniel 2:22 ESV
he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.
God knows everything. Think of your hardest class, science? He knows it. Math? Knows it. History? Knows it. He knows all of it.
However, God knowing everything provokes two responses.
Point 2 - The idea that God knows you fully is scary for some
Some of you might be really good at hiding things. You might be good at hiding things from your parents. You might be good at hiding things from your siblings. You might be good at hiding things from your friends. But God know EVERYTHING.
I am going to read some verses. Put yourself in these verses.
Psalm 139:2–3 (ESV)
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Proverbs 15:3 (ESV)
The eyes of the Lord are in every place,
keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Psalm 69:5 ESV
O God, you know my folly; the wrongs I have done are not hidden from you.
1 Corinthians 4:5 ESV
Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then each one will receive his commendation from God.
God knows you fully. God knows when you mess up, and no one is around.
God knows your thoughts! The sinful thoughts you have that no one know.
This idea is scary for some. Why? Because we know us. We know all the bad things we have done. It’s called shame. We are ashamed for the things we have done. We feel guilty. We don’t want others to know.
Think if we had a movie night where we projected your thoughts and life onto the screen. Which we do for one of you… Just kidding. But some if not all of you had your stomach flip. Why? Because of that shame of what we have done wrong.
And we talked last week about how God is righteous and just. Add the fact He knows us perfectly, all our failures. That is why when I said that God knows everything about you, some of you felt nervous.
Point 3 - The idea that God knows you fully is amazing for some
What is the other response. The fact that I said God knows everything about you, all your failures, faults, it makes some of us scared, shameful, or nervous. The second response actually starts this way, but quickly transitions into gratefulness.
Why? Think if I knew everything about you. All your faults and failures. Your actions and thoughts. Even better than you know. And think if I still loved you, more than anyone else. That is true of God. God knows us better than we know ourselves. But this fact makes a simple verse we all probably know, that much more impactful.
John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
This puts the amazing into amazing grace. God knows us. Knows our failures, our faults, everything we done wrong, and He still loves us. He still died for us.
We already looked at Luke 12:7, but there is more to that verse.
Luke 12:7 ESV
Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Conclusion
God knows everything about you. And you are loved and valued.
