Nehemiah 3

Nehemiah 3:1 ESV

1 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brothers the priests, and they built the Sheep Gate. They consecrated it and set its doors. They consecrated it as far as the Tower of the Hundred, as far as the Tower of Hananel.

Eliashib - He was the high priest. The leader. Yet, Nehemiah was going to clash with him later.

Sheep gate - the gate that they would bring in the lambs to have sacrificed. Right by the temple.

Tower of hudred and tower of hanael -

Nehemiah 3:2 ESV

2 And next to him the men of Jericho built. And next to them Zaccur the son of Imri built.

Jericho built - walls. Almost an oxymoron. God can tear down the walls.

Nehemiah 3:3–4 ESV

3 The sons of Hassenaah built the Fish Gate. They laid its beams and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars. 4 And next to them Meremoth the son of Uriah, son of Hakkoz repaired. And next to them Meshullam the son of Berechiah, son of Meshezabel repaired. And next to them Zadok the son of Baana repaired.

Fish gate -

son of, son of - notice three generations working together.

Nehemiah 3:5 ESV

5 And next to them the Tekoites repaired, but their nobles would not stoop to serve their Lord.

Tekoites - one of David’s warriors.

but their notbles would not stoop. Exact opposite of Jesuss’ example.

Nehemiah 3:6 ESV

6 Joiada the son of Paseah and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah repaired the Gate of Yeshanah. They laid its beams and set its doors, its bolts, and its bars.

Sheep gate - baaaad people. Became a sheep.

Fish Gate - Make you fishers of men.

Small part of a big job.

God uses ordinanary days to accomplsih His Work.
