The Gospel of Mark

The Gospel of Mark, generally held to be the first gospel recorded, and is the shortest Gospel in our bible.
John Mark, the writer of the gospel and cousin to Barnabas and missionary companion to Paul.
The Gospel of Mark was likely written to persuade Gentile readers in Rome that Jesus’ death on the cross did not invalidate his claims to messiahship or his proclamation of the kingdom of God, but rather that his resurrection, miracles, and prediction of his death justified his claims.

Sermon

Give me some words that describes someone who is corrupt:
Selfish, loves money, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, no self-control, not loving, reckless, etc…
Timothy writes that these people are corrupt and lost. They are lost because they are always learning but never arrive at truth.
Several of these qualities are encouraged by our culture, but Timothy tells us we are to avoid these characteristics and even people that have them.

We Are Set Apart

2 Timothy 3:10 ESV
10 You, however, have followed my teaching, my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love, my steadfastness,
Born again believers in Christ are not only to avoid from the qualities of our culture but we are to stand opposite in character.
No self-control - Patience
Love of money - a different aim in life
Ungrateful - Loving
2 Timothy 3:13–17 ESV
13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Why Does A Lost Person Act Like A Lost Person?
vs. 13: They deceive because they are being deceived.
This deception keeps a person stagnate. Timothy says lost people will not get far because they are emersed in the lies of the enemy.
Why Do We Stand Apart?
vs. 14: We Continue in faith.
We have guidance from the Word of God, conviction from the Holy Spirit, and…
We have hope in salvation.
2 Timothy 3:15 ESV
15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
Through our faith in Christ we have the gift of salvation that removes the lens of deception from our life and allows us to walk in freedom with God.
Us standing apart from out culture is not something that we chose to do but is a reflection of the truth and freedom in us!

Feet of the Gospel

Paul = Master
Timothy = Padawan
Ephesians 6:14-15 (ESV)
Ephesians 6:14–15 ESV
14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.
Paul taught Timothy we have an armour from God that equips us to share the gospel and stand against evil.
I think verses 16-17 is Paul’s teaching in Timothy.
2 Timothy 3:16–17 ESV
16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Through the correction, training and teaching of the Word of God we put on our armour of God and are prepared for everything that life throws at us.

Conclusion

Are you prepared to share the gospel?
Are there lies of the enemy that you are believing that is deceiving you and holding you stagnant in your life?
If there is, recognize those lies, let go of what you are holding onto and ask for forgiveness from God.
