This Is My Story (4)
Intro:
*Reference the spot the difference*
Was it hard to find the differences? Did you know there were actually six differences?
Some of the differences were harder to find than others!
Where there more differences or similarities?
Tonight we will look at the story of two men… who had a lot in common. But we we need to focus on tonight was their similarities. We’ll see the role wisdom plays in your story.
Core:
Let’s read Matthew 7:24-27
Let’s talk about this:
Similarities:
-each man built a house
-both heard the words of Jesus
-both encountered a storm
BUT one is called wise and the other foolish… Why?
The wise man built his house on the rock. The foolish man built on the sand.
What’s the difference in the rock and the sand?
Sand:
-unsteady
-lacks foundation
-moveable
Rock:
-steady/unchanging
-solid foundation
-immovable
The rock provides a safe place to build a house. It’s why foundations are made of rock and not sand!
How do I avoid being foolish?
Wisdom is applying what you learn.
Fools can have knowledge but unless they put it into action it’s meaningless.
You can avoid becoming a fool by taking what we learn here and applying it.
You say you love Jesus. But do you actually do what scripture says? Jesus says in John “If you love me you will keep my commands”
Loving Jesus, produces action.
Wrap Up:
How can I build my house on the rock?
1: Submit your life to Jesus. Give it all to him. He is the rock. He is unchanging. He is strong and secure. When the storms come you can stand on him.
**Story of losing Levi**
2: Follow Him. Faith produces the good works we talked about last week. Apply the things we learn her at church. Seek after the Lord.
Who do you want to be? The person building their house on the sand? Or the rock?
