Younger Son - All of us have rebelled against our loving Father.

Sometimes we downplay sin because we downplay God’s glory.
Even if you’re not eating pig food yet, “empty” will come.
The Son doesn’t wait until he’s sober, financially stable, well fed, etc. to come home. The famine is too urgent!

Father - God is ready to welcome you but he won’t force you to come home.

The Father is undignified in his welcome of the Son.
It’s not about the Father welcoming the Son because of what he’s done (turning around), but in spite of what he’s done.
It’s about being accepted and then our lives changing, not being accepted because we were able to change on our own.
Don’t you think the younger son wanted to live differently now?

Older Son - You can be physically close to the Father and still miss his heart.

The older son thought he deserved a party because of his obedience, but the father threw the party for the younger because he was safe now.
It’s not about church attendance, even though that comes later. It’s about accepting grace and coming home.
Three questions you need to ask before becoming a Christian. Jesus has already answered the first 2 for you.
Do you believe that you’re a sinner?
Do you believe that Jesus died for sinners?
Are you ready to put Christ on his throne?
