Introducing the issue

What the Old Testament is + why the law is good (shows us God’s holiness, shows us our sin, shows us our need for grace), but insufficient (prompts us to sin but doesn’t free us from it)
Jesus seems to disregard some laws (Luke 6:1-5), double down on some (Matthew 5:38-48), and ignore others (Matthew 22:23-33)
“Well that was the OT” — promoting homosexuality
“We still follow the OT” — not eating shrimp
Who is right? Neither, actually.

3 types of OT laws

Moral — Leviticus 19:11
Civil — Leviticus 19:15, 19:35-36
Ceremonial — Numbers 29:39
So, which OT laws do we follow?
The moral are unending, based on God’s character (Leviticus 19:2)
We follow the moral laws.
We appreciate the civil laws, and let them inform our understanding of a just society (without expecting non-Christians to fully appreciate).
We see the ceremonial law fulfilled in the sacrifice of Jesus.
