Delighting in God… finding your pleasure in him, your joy… to rejoice in him.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 NIV
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Hindrances to delight

Sin - Pride
Matthew 13:20–22 NIV
20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.
Persecution/hardship - easy to delight in the Lord on Sunday, with other Christians, not so easy in work life, school life, community life, when others don’t appreciate our God… we can’t just delight in the Lord occasionally!
Worries of life, deceitfulness of wealth - look at where we are privileged to live, very comfortable… easy to start delighting in the gifts God has given rather than the giver of the gifts.
