If the question where to come up...”what is truth” we would undoubtedly get a million different opinions of what that truth is, based on every mans opinion and often, not according to any kind of evidence or proofs whatsoever.
In today's society, people stand on and hold true to their own truth.
Many times these truths are not even based on facts, history or any kind of life transformation, but merely on an uneducated opinion of our own making.
We begin to hold true to and adhere to truths of our own making…worshipping things not of God but of man.
In stead of studying even a little bit....we find ourselves becoming willingly ignorant.
This was true of Belshazzar:
This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it.
TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
It’s not that Belshazzar was poor and had no money or wealth..but rather that he was lacking in another area....one concerning God.
He was found wanting meaning:
not present or in evidence: Absent
not being up to standards or expectations
lacking in ability or capacity : DEFICIENT
He did have the head knowledge though, but was lacking in action, in application.
When we refer to a person being ignorant it means that they are lacking knowledge (something is missing in understanding or relationship)
Ignorant means: destitute of knowledge or education
Destitute:
lacking something needed or desirable
lacking possessions and resources especially : suffering extreme poverty
Destitute" came from "destituere" ("to abandon" or "to deprive")
lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified
Ignorant shares a root with the word ignore, one of those etymological connections which appear obvious once they are pointed out, yet remained overlooked by most. Both words come from the Latin ignorare (“to ignore, be ignorant of”). There are several meanings of ignorant, all of which are concerned with a lack of knowledge in some sense or to ignore something
When the bible says Numbered it means: To settle accounts, to make a calculation or to Judge
Belshazzar found himself lacking truth in the realm of knowledge and the application of that knowledge
Truth requires not only head knowledge but is also evident in action and compliance
There must be, by default, a single universal truth that is common to all mankind....that is fair to one as it is to all.
In the military…things are done in a certain way to bring unity, equality and conformity to all equally so that all are on the same page…
This is done so that all can and will work together as one and that all things work together for the survival and success of all.
We study the word of God to show ourselves approved or accepted of God…To come into the unity of the faith.
2 tim 2.15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Truth, to a human, can be very abstract....
Without the knowledge of God, We, as human beings can evolve only approximate ideas of truth.
This is to the extent that these ideas are based on the factual data of the created world,
though they do, of course, contain real elements of truth
This is to the degree that there is an original revelation of God in creation and in the heart, though they may even say some true things about the being and nature of God
However... the obscuring of God’s original self-revelation by human sin (the separation of man from God because of original sin) means that a person alone and unaided has no true and reliable data concerning God, Regarding truth in the ultimate sense,
Meaning, the truth not only of humanity and the world but of humanity and the world in relation to God, human beings can only build insecurely on these fragments as we have
So what is truth and why do we need it?
Truth in its root, involves both knowledge and Christ....which we find are one in the same.... but to what end and purpose?
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
In other words....til we all come into the unity of truth....
Christ being the chief cornerstone of that very building process…that very pursuit of truth and a true and right relationship with God
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
But ye have not so learned Christ;
If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
When we put on Christ....we are, in essence putting on Christ and the truth.
For truth is in Christ.
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
This is, in essence, the million dollar question
The problem lies in the fact that people have been seeking the answer to this question for millenium…but have been searching by their own understanding.
not understanding where and what truth really is.....
trying to disprove God by using the very things that where created by that same God.
Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
When we consider truth…we consider something that is factual, truthful and provable.
Truth is based on facts, evidence, authority and reality.
.Jesus Christ was the authority....the actual evidence of God...the visual representation and basis of Gods' very existence.
We find those truths in the very word of God…We see the evidence of the existence and power of God as seen through the naked eye.
And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.
Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
The evidence of truth is in the very things that have been seen and heard....the things that where before their very eyes.
The very word “poor”, meaning those that are lacking economically, socially or lacking concerning other resources....referring to a state of mind (those that are without understanding)
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
We see that in John the truth of God in a person is both true reality and truth as distinct from lying.
Again, when Jesus speaks the truth, He certainly says what is true, but He also brings the revelation of God.
As revelation, the truth is to be known
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
But this is more than formal knowledge of factual or theoretical truth.
It is knowledge of Jesus Himself as the truth.
He brings the truth in Himself
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
And to know Him is to know the One who is full of grace and truth (1:14). This knowledge is by faith and thus by the Holy Spirit.
Hence John closely links the Holy Spirit and truth. The Spirit is the Spirit of truth, and He guides into all truth.
His anointing is true
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
and His witness is true, for, like Jesus, the Spirit is truth (5:6). To worship in the Spirit is to worship in truth.
This means supremely not worshiping in spirituality or with pure ideas, but worshiping in conformity with the reality of God revealed in Jesus by the Spirit.
Yet we should not forget that truth in this relevant sense also implies right doctrine, and right conduct.
We must remember that God is not an unapproachable God
The bible says that God is a spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth
We must worship him according to truth which is in Christ Jesus
The God we serve is only unapproachable if we don’t worship him through Christ Jesus.....By putting on Christ through being born again which is through his blood, we have put on truth and are able to approach this unapproachable God.
Truth is in deed a relationship with our Creator through Jesus Christ his son.
For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
In conclusion
Truth is not something that we can find within ourselves....rather, something that must be sought in the spiritual realm
Through the word of God
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
We find that there is a universal truth that we can only find in our Lord Jesus Christ....for in him are the words of truth and life.
For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
To be baptized not only means in the water but also in the spirit
The word baptized means:
to make pure in spirit
to give a name to
Also as in, baptism by the transformation of the mind and body....
The subjection of mind, body and spirit into the unity of…or into the agreement of, the spirit of God and his word of Truth.
We must remember that truth is not just merely a head knowledge of something…but rather a unity and a subjection of body, mind and soul
All this coming together in the unity and knowledge we have found and that has been established in Christ
Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Jesus Christ is truth...and that through that truth in him we are Sactified.
The only way to God and eternal life is through the truth, this truth being Jesus Christ
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God which is given us by his son.
truth is not what we make it, it is found in the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
There is only one way to God...that is through Jesus Christ.....
The way, the truth and the life.
Unless Christ is within us...the truth is not in us.
