We are in week 8 of 12 in our series titled “Saved”.
Today we really close in on our final sermon in the section “Saved by What?”
We have preached on the following:
Grace, Faith, Substitutionary Atonement, and now Solus Christus
Why spend an additional week on preaching Christ Alone...
grace — God giving us what we don’t deserve
faith — a gift by His grace to believe on Him and His work
Substitutionary Atonement — Christ standing/hanging in our place.
Now is the recognition of the value/worth of the Sacrifice.
5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
How does God allow a sinful man into His kingdom, where He allows no sin?
How does God allow a sinful man into His kingdom, where He allows no sin?
We have to note from the fall forward there was the requirement of a sacrifice to cover sin.
We have to note, when the sacrificial system began, it was the design of God to allow but one man to sacrifice for the sins of the people.
Hebrews 5:1–3 (ESV)
1 For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
2 He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.
3 Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people.
So in relation to man, God sent the priests to work on, with, and on behalf of men.
The priests were necessary to bring and make atonement for the people once per year.
The only problem they had to sacrifice for themselves first and then yearly for the people.
But just as we pointed to last Sunday, Atonement must be made.
So we answer the question in that there must be an Atonement for theirs sins.
Who Can Atone for so Great a Number of people and sins?
Who Can Atone for so Great a Number of people and sins?
The King of kings & Lord of lords.
16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Look a bit further with me:
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
We Only Needed One!

5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”—
