Where He Meets Us In Our Secrets En nuestros secretos October 15, 2023 (Mark 5:25-34, NLT) A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, "If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed. Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my robe?" His disciples said to him, "Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, 'Who touched me?'" But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over." Introduction: Perhaps you have had someone whisper to you-wanna hear a secret? It can feel empowering knowing that others don't! That is until it's YOUR secret and you are tormented by the thought someone may discover your secret. You worry that if your secret is known you'll be... * Embarrassed * Fired * Divorced * Arrested * Alone (you fill in the blank) So you do what we are all tempted to do-you bury your secret and silently pray no one ever finds out. * Your secrets may represent hurts from pain suffered at the hands of others, albeit unintentional, yet painful still. * It may represent the failures of your past which have never been resolved in your heart. * The relationship you now know you should have never gotten into. * The decision you made to "fit in" and the shame you feel about what you did. Our secrets DEFINE us, and they MARK our spirits. Nuestros secretos nos DEFINEN y MARCAN nuestro espíritu. The woman in this passage knows exactly how you feel. For twelve years she carried a secret that no one could know. The nature of it kept her in the shadows, living a secret life without the joy of others, or the relationships that bring joy. Culturally, she's an outcast-unwanted, dismissed until she found Jesus. Here's the BAD NEWS...Jesus always knows your secrets! (Hebrews 4:12-13) For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. (Hebreos 4:12-13) Porque la palabra de Dios es viva y poderosa. Es más cortante que la espada más afilada de dos filos, y corta entre el alma y el espíritu, entre las articulaciones y los tuétanos. Expone nuestros pensamientos y deseos más íntimos. Nada en toda la creación está oculto a Dios. Todo está desnudo y expuesto ante sus ojos, y él es ante quien debemos rendir cuentas. Here's the GOOD NEWS... Jesus always knows your secrets! Because He knows, there is the opportunity for you to overcome ...every hidden thing that has been holding you back ...every unrepented sin ...every broken promise ...every hurt or pain that has been inflicted on you. This is one of the most powerful testimonies in the ministry of Jesus (for many reasons) and her life speaks to us... Sometimes You Do All You Can A veces haces todo lo que puedes (Mark 5:25-26) A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. (Marcos 5:25-26) Una mujer entre la multitud había sufrido durante doce años una hemorragia constante. Había sufrido mucho con muchos médicos y a lo largo de los años había gastado todo lo que tenía para pagarles, pero no había mejorado. De hecho, había empeorado. * Though we are never told the woman's name, we actually know a great deal about her and this journey of 12 years...probably because once she was healed, she unloaded it all to Jesus (Mark 5:33) But the woman, fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. (Marcos 5:33) Pero la mujer, temerosa y temblando, consciente de lo que le había sucedido, se acercó y postrándose delante de él le contó toda la verdad. I would imagine those who were present that day told the story many times over...I would have. * She's had this affliction for 12 years ...does not sound like long until you are the one living through it! o 4383 days o 105,120 hours o 6,312,000 minutes * She has suffered...many doctors o Every new doctor offered a "perhaps" moment only to be disappointed again * She's spent everything... (Job 2:4 ISV) ...man will give up everything that he owns in exchange for his health. * She's only getting worse... * When you are trying to so hard to work out a solution to the problem, mistake, secret, you get so busy doing it yourself-and you miss the more important thing in your life-GET CONNECTED TO JESUS. * It is our nature to just keep doing stuff...trying something else and then something else... * There is never enough of you and you'll never be able to do enough stuff-but if you can touch Him! * At what point do you give up? Sometimes Others Cannot Help A veces otras no pueden ayudar * When we live in secret, we live alone o You may be sitting among hundreds of people and completely alone because no one knows and no one can help you. o The toughest battle is the one you fight alone. * Her issue was physical-but there is more that she requires than just physical. * The stigma of her uncleanness is public. o The rules of society define her as one who cannot be normal. o The secret she carries allows others to define who she is. o She cannot be who she desires to be as long as she stays in the shadows-at some point you have to come out! Jesus is passing your way. * Some of her pain is self-inflicted, the result of assumptions. o Her mind creates conclusions (never tested) but they are a perceived reality to her. o You start believing you are what you think people think about you. As a church, we have a responsibility * How many people are passing you every day, hiding and hurting? o She passes you in the hallway at the office or in the grocery store aisle. o He pumps your gas. o She waits your table at the restaurant. o People who don't know how to find freedom. * Who's sitting near you today? What is God trying to do in that section where you are sitting today? People with secrets who need to find Jesus. Personas con secretos que necesitan encontrar a Jesús. She is a woman in need. At some point she decides she won't live this way any longer-she activates a powerful faith! (Mark 5:27-28) Since she had heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his robe, because she had been saying, If I can just touch his robe, I will get well. (Marcos 5:27-28) Como había oído hablar de Jesús, se acercó detrás de él entre la multitud y tocó su manto, porque había estado diciendo: Si puedo tocar su manto, sanaré. Sometimes You Run Out of Strength A veces te quedas sin fuerzas * Weariness is the companion of the silent sufferer. * Sometimes there is just so much stuff * There is a promise available to you today... (Matthew 11:28) ...Jesus said, Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Mateo 11:28) ...Jesús dijo: Venid a mí todos los que estáis cansados y cargados, y yo os haré descansar. (Isaiah 40:28-31) Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, and to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, but those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. (Isaías 40:28-31) ¿No lo has sabido? ¿No lo has oído? El Dios eterno, el SEÑOR, Creador de los confines de la tierra, no desmaya ni se cansa. Su comprensión es inescrutable. Él da poder a los débiles, y a los que no tienen fuerzas les aumenta las fuerzas. Aun los jóvenes desmayarán y se cansarán, y los jóvenes caerán por completo, pero los que esperan en Jehová renovarán sus fuerzas; levantarán alas como las águilas, correrán y no se cansarán, caminarán y no se fatigarán. Conclusion: Something dramatic happens when she approaches Jesus-without fanfare she found Him and touched His robe and in that moment, she was healed-changed. Takeaways... 1. When you touch Him, you'll know it Cuando lo toques, lo sabrás -you can't touch Him with your faith and not be truly transformed 2. When you touch Him, He knows it Cuando lo tocas, Él lo sabe. -you cannot touch Him through faith without Him knowing and responding (Mark 9:23) Anything is possible if a person believes. (Marcos 9:23) Todo es posible si una persona cree. What is your "anything"? God I'm a sinner I'm sorry for my sins I believe Jesus died for my sins I believe Jesus will forgive my sins I choose Jesus Dios soy un pecador Lo siento por mis pecados Creo que Jesús murió por mis pecados. Creo que Jesús perdonará mis pecados. elijo a jesus
