This is not always a bad goal or need. In fact, to some extent we all have to have some sense of control.
The final letter.

Laodicea was self-sufficient in many ways.
This was a city in the Ancient world who truly did say “we dont’ need your help”. This wasn’t necessarily a statement of pride but of reality.
One weakness-their water.
There was one area where this was not the case—their water was very poor quality. They took great strides to get water from teh hot springs of the Heiropolis or Colosse to the south.
Jesus is the final amen.
This means he is faithful to the promises he has spoken. Saying amen to some extent has the connotation of “may it be so” or “so be it”.
Creation begins with Jesus—He is the creator.
This is the point of verse 14.
Jesus loves His church.
We cannot forget this truth, as found in verse 19.

Jesus desires a relationship of dependency.
This is why we repent. This is partially behind the door knocking motive.
