Do you know how to swim? If yes, do you remember when you went from fearing the water to being comfortable floating in it? When did you go from being worried about how cold, or deep, or how strong the waves were; to knowing where you could stand, and how to tread water if not? Now you know water can hurt you but can still enjoy being wrapped in its presence. This came about by YOU experiencing water over time.
Having peace in trying times doesn’t happen for most people the moment they accept Christ as Savior. Going to Him, testing Him out, dipping your toes in until you’re ready to go waist deep, shoulder deep, and so on. This is how the relationship is built. Through reading His Word, prayer, and fellowship with His children. As you ‘taste and see’, you find yourself with more peace as you go from hoping to knowing God is in control and wants nothing but good for those who trust in Him.
