what is it trying to teach me?
what is it trying to correct in me?
What is it trying to change in me?
What Is It Helping Me Learn
The Old Testament Teaches the History of our Faith
From Adam to Abraham , from Jacob to Joseph
From Bondage to Freedom to Fear (Moses)
The Taking of the promise land to losing it.
The Old Testament Give us great insights and saying of wisdom
Psalms
Proverbs
Songs of Solomon ( if your looking for a book on romantic sayings check it out)
The Old Law teaches us what is sin
Romans 7:7 (ESV): The Law and Sin
7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
Romans 7:12 (ESV): 12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
Biggest things with the Old Testament is that it points to Jesus
not only in the prophets
from Genesis to Malachi
John 1:1–3 (ESV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Genesis 1:26 (ESV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Luke 24:44 (ESV)
44 Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.”
What About the New Testament?
The New testament teaches that righteousness is not based on actions
Hebrews 8:13 (ESV)
13 In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
what about above where it said its all good
Its all good, it all teaches, but not all is applied the same
The Old law was righteousness by works
The New Testament is righteousness by faith in Jesus
Romans 8:1–4 (ESV)
1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:9–11 (ESV)
9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
The New Law teaches us that we are to be different
John 14:15 (ESV)
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Part 2
53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, 54 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” 58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief.
