Intro: “In God we trust” Money, car tag. But how many people really trust God? As we look at this verse today, not just trust God, but to trust God with all your heart.
David trusted God with all his heart when he faced a great warrior, when one else did, not even King Saul would.
Nehemiah trusted Gods instructions, with all his heart to rebuild the wall.
Noah trusted God with all he heart.
We see examples all through tje Bible, of people who trusted God with all their hear.
If you will trust God with all our heart, we to can see great things happen.
If you trust God with all your heart, you will be able to do what ever God has called you to do,
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart”
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
This verse is true, but in order for you to do all things, you have to trust God with all your heart.
Trust is the key word.
Our God dependable.
His character makes it impossible for Him to lie. His word is true.
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
His wisdom is so great He can never make a mistake.
Our God can be trusted.
Think of what is going on in our world today.
War in Israel.
Violence.
We live in a time of uncertainty.
People's hearts and minds are filled with uncertainty and with uncertainty comes fear.
So what we must do is “trust God with all you heart”
God is love: We have to allow God to embrace us with His love.
To allow Gods love to embrace us, we have to trust Him.
The only way that we can trust God, is to allow Him to have our heart.
Here is what happens too many times, we say that we trust God but deep down we really don’t.
There is no possible way for us to say we trust God and not allow Him to have our heart. God must have our heart to truly, have our trust.
We may talk the talk and move on with our lives. We just keep on doing our own thing and expect God to bless it.
We put our trust in a lot of things.
Bank.
Pilot fighting a plane.
Cook at the restaurant.
Amazon.
Family.
We place our trust in all sorts of things on a daily basis.
We place our trust in many different types of things or people. What do these all have in common?
Sometimes these things or services fail or cannot fulfill every need.
We can trust in God. He will never fail, He will fulfill our every need.
Vs. 5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart”
Why the heart?
What makes the heart so crucial to trust issues?
In our day, the heart, at least in our view is emotions or desire. We’ve heard people say: my heart isn’t in it, when they don’t want to do something.
For many trust of the heart we tend to be drawn toward the emotional end of things.
When Solomon speaks about the heart, he is referring to the core of the human life. The heart was the center of everything.
The heart is the essence of all we are as human beings.
When Solomon says to trust God with all of your heart, he is saying trust God with all of your life, all of your possessions, all of your being and all that you will become.
If we are honest, many times, our trust in God falls far short of this trust.
When Solomon speaks about trust he is talking about the whole deal.
All means exactly that all, not some, not parts, not a little but everything. The truth is that we either trust God with all or not at all.
Vs. 5 “and lean not on your own understanding;”
The word "lean" here means to lean ones whole body on something, to be strengthened by it, to be supported by it.
The more we lean on self the less we lean on God. The more we lean on self the more we are to fear.
The more we lean on self the more likely we are to stress and strain. Listen to what our Lord had to say:
There are time in our life, when things just doesn’t make sense. We have all gone through times in life when experience situations that leaves us with a complete lack of understanding.
Book James Dobson. “Keeping the faith, even when God doesn't make since”
Trusting God with all your heart means that you lean on God at all times, no matter how bad the situation, we trust in every possible way.
Life is never fair, we will always deal with difficulties.
Trust in God is more then just something we talk about in church and move on.
Trust in God is the only thing that gets us through life when reality hits.
In those days when life is tough, when things ha[[en that do not make sense. When things happen that are beyond our control, these are the times when we most trust God the most.
We need to trust God when life just gets tough because if we don’t trust him the tough stuff, we don’t trust Him at all.
Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV)
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
God made the promise that He would always be with us. When God makes a promise, He keeps it!
If God never leaves us, we can trust Him in every situation and in every trial.
God always comes through in every problem and every trail, even when we barely get through. The power and presence of God gets us through the tough stuff of life
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Most people don’t think that they need God. So there is no way they can trust God.
Or some people only acknowledge, when they have a need.
“In all your ways acknowledge Him”
6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.
Before we can live in a life of trusting God, we must acknowledge our deep need for God. Without admitting that we need God, we will miss out on His presence, His provision, and His power.
Trusting God is a choice, and we make it every day in the way we live and in the way we acknowledge Him.
“And He shall direct your paths”
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
We do not make our own path but we follow the one that God lays out for our lives. God is the one who sets the path for life and either we follow it or we don’t.
Our problem is that we get too busy trying to direct our own paths, chart the course and plan out every detail of life, that we leave God out of the picture.
Its better to walk the path of pain and suffering with God than walk the path of pleasure and success without Him.
One of the best things about following God is that He never messes up the directions.
He never sends us the wrong way, even though it may feel like it.
He never leads us the wrong way. Who or what is leading your life today?
Conclusion. Have you given your whole heart to the God of creation?
Does your heart belong to the Lord of life?
Do you acknowledge the fact that you need God?
Are you following the path that God lays out for you?
Can you honestly say to God I’m yours?
