Text: Romans 15:8-13
Intro: It is paramount that we understand God’s plan and seeing God’s plan we see a Sovereign God that loves! God has a chosen people, they are the Nation of Israel… The Bible refers to them as His people, the elect, the chosen, the Jews, and Israelites, to name a few. Christ came to His people as verse 8 states...
And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Luke 1:46-55, 67-80
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
They killed John, they crucified Christ, and they stoned Stephen.
If Israel had recieved their Messiah, then things would be different… Salvation would still be available to the Gentile but it would be through the magnified blessing of God’s people and the established Kingdom. However, we know that the Gospel was sent to the Gentiles through Israel’s fall and not her rise to glory...
These verses are a condensed version of what Paul gave in Chapter 9-11 of the book of Romans.
Christ came as a servant, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs, which resulted in mercy being extended to the Gentiles. Christ must first needs have gone to His own however,
But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
It was through the willingness of Christ being led as a “lamb to the slaughter”
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted,
Yet he opened not his mouth:
He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before her shearers is dumb,
So he openeth not his mouth.
That brought closure to the Old Testament and the fulfillment of all the messianic prophecies that spoke of this coming! This lead the way for both the Jew and the Gentile!
For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
What is amazing is that Paul is going to illustrate this using 4 Old Testament Scriptures.
Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen,
And I will sing praises unto thy name.
Rejoice, O ye nations, with his people:
For he will avenge the blood of his servants,
And will render vengeance to his adversaries,
And will be merciful unto his land, and to his people.
O praise the Lord, all ye nations:
Praise him, all ye people.
And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse,
Which shall stand for an ensign of the people;
To it shall the Gentiles seek:
And his rest shall be glorious.
Paul uses all of these verses to demonstrate that the Gentiles were not an after thought in God’s plan but were part of God’s plan all along, first through the Jew’s and their relationship with God and then through Christ!
Let the people praise thee, O God;
Let all the people praise thee.
O let the nations be glad and sing for joy:
For thou shalt judge the people righteously,
And govern the nations upon earth. Selah.
Let the people praise thee, O God;
Let all the people praise thee.
It is Christ Who is our TRUST!
The root! When we trust Him the God of hope fills with all joy and peace in believing! That we may abound in hope! Through the working power of the Holy Ghost!
