What we need to know about deliverance

Jesus instructed us to do so. He also empowered us for this work

Matthew 10:1 NKJV

And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

Matthew 10:7–8 NKJV

And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Who are we getting free from?

Ephesians 6:10–12 NKJV

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

So there is another kingdom, another reality that is ruling today that carries power and influence that is wicked but that promotes itself as being in “heavenly places”

This is a spirit of deceit, conjuring and lying spirit that will twist the truth so cleverly that you will swallow it as if it were the truth.

John 8:42–44 NLT

Jesus told them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I have come to you from God. I am not here on my own, but he sent me. Why can’t you understand what I am saying? It’s because you can’t even hear me! For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.

1 Peter 5:8 NKJV

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

2 Corinthians 11:14 NKJV

And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

We Can be Under the Influence of the Devil

Luke 8:30 NKJV

Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?” And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him.

John 8:32–36 NKJV

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?” Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

We are instructed by God to Cast out, Resist the Devil and he will flee

James 4:7–8 NLT

So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

Humility means reality, Pride means not real, exaggerated… blown out of proportion.

We are to be real with God!

James 4:10 NKJV

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

We must fill up on Jesus!

Matthew 12:43–45 NKJV

“When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
