Isaiah 40:27-31
v. 27 |
My way
My right (cause)
This verse sounds like a person who is in crisis, who is having a crisis of faith. But it is important for us to keep in mind who it is that we have faith in.
He is
All-powerful in verse 12
All-wise in verses 13-14
Undefeated in verses 15-17
Unrivaled in verses 18-20
And the king of kings in 21-24
I don’t want to speak too harshly to those who have gone through a crisis of faith at some point but is it possible that we have managed to forget who it is that we have faith in?
v. 28 | Isaiah poses a question to those who are downtrodden: Is this information that has failed to come to you? Maybe you’ve heard it but haven’t fully fathomed or understood.
Beyond what has been said previously in the chapter, we must maintain faith because God is everlasting. Time does not hold Him.
As Creator of the earth, He is sovereign over all.
His endurance and strength know no limits.
And neither does His wisdom.
With each of these categories, the weary can rejoice in knowing that it is God who they are able to rest on. Why can we rest on God?
v. 29 | Because His power is distributed to those who need it! In moments of weakness, He is the provider of strength.
It is because God possesses all of these attributes that those who seem to tire out easily will be renewed each time.
In verse 31, the word for wait is similar to the idea of hope. We wait on God, resting in the fact that He is able to provide renewed strength. And He always has. And always will.
