If you have been apart of this church for the past 40 years, you will remember the lessons that the Bishop taught on Iniquity!!
It hard to believe but that was 30 years ago!
And nothing has changed, iniquity is still at work today!
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
Your grandparents, your parents, YOU and even to your children.
Iniquity can work its way through a family!
And will work it way through a family -
IF nothing is done to STOP it!!
Let’s look at a few scriptures that talk about iniquity!
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
They called Him Lord!
We’ve done many wonderful works in they Name!!
But He said, “I don’t know you!!”
Depart YE that WORK iniquity!!
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Its not something that is going to get less, but as the enemy of our souls continues to be the master of deception.
Iniquity shall abound!!
And many shall wax cold
19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
You can depart from iniquity!
You don’t have to stay on your current path!!
How God Distinguishes Sin from Iniquity

If we go to Webster: immoral or grossly unfair behavior
Some dictionaries define iniquity as a synonym for sin.
However, God is far more precise!
Ps 51:2 “2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.”
Ps 51:5 “5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.”
You look at that word “shapen”: which means to twist!
such as a person twisting strands of rope together to form a stronger rope
Its an interesting note that our DNA is twisted strands of information about us.
We have the traits of our Fathers!!
And from one generation, to another!
From stands, to another stand
It gets stronger!!
Ps 51:9 “9 Hide thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities.”
I want to be a NEW CREATURE in Christ Jesus!!
I want to be “Shapen” with a new DNA!!
my earthly Adam passed down sin in my life
But He who knew NO SIN!!
He can blot out all my iniquities!!
The definition of Iniquity
The definition of Iniquity
The clearest and most accurate way to define the word iniquity.
Is to look at the scriptures.
One clue can be found in:
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
We must ask:
When is preaching iniquity?
When is casting out demons iniquity?
When is doing many wonderful works iniquity?
The answer is given in the above verse!
Matt 7:21 “21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
When you do something for your own good, where its your will, your glory!!
Iniquity is doing our OWN WILL!!

Instead of doing the will of the Father!!
Its more about YOU instead of the Heavenly Father!!
Who is our example that we are to follow?

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
To follow the will of the Spirit!!
Not my will - BUT thy Will be done!!
The writer in Hebrews talk Christ:
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

The relationship between iniquity and doing our own will is found in:
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned every one to his own way; And the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah likened us to straying sheep!
Shepherds state that the natural tendency of sheep is to stay together because this is their main way of defense.
When a sheep begins to wander away from the flock,
it is an indication that it may be sick,
it is weak from lack of food, or it has become distracted and has lost its way.
That is a pretty accurate description of people struggling in Christ.
They start to withdraw!!
Sin has made them spiritually sick, weak, or lost in their sins.
2 Cor 4:3 “3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:”
Our natural tendency is to stray away from God.
We have all gone astray!

This word “astray” is from the Hebrew word ta`ah {taw-aw’} which means “to err, wander, stagger, to be led astray, seduced, or deceived.”
Sheep are notoriously single-minded and at the same time unaware of their circumstances.
Their minds are on the next clump of grass and not much else.
Furthermore, when they are frightened, they have a tendency to bolt off in any direction.
As a result of these two tendencies, sheep are prone to get lost.
Like them, we humans seem not to be much aware of the consequences of our choices

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
The three aspects of our human nature that cause use to drift away:
Lust of the Flesh
By our very nature, our flesh lusts after things of the world
Desiring and coveting more and more is a constant battle we face.
The flesh lust for more and more

more $$
more power
more recognition or honor
Lust of the Eye
the devil is a master of making things attractive to the eye.
Ps 101:3 “3 I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.”
We want what we see!!
We are curious creatures
Pride of Life
We are selfish
Like that sheep all we can see is that new patch of grass
And we ignore everything around us!!

The Greek word for Iniquity is anomia:
A means “without”
and nomia means law.
Lawlessness
“the condition of one without law, contempt and violation of law; not subject to the law”
As sheep we cannot see the consequence of our actions!!
God help me, through the Spirit, to see myself for who I am!!
Help me to understand that I need the body of Christ!
I’m protected staying around the church!!

Remember - we can think that we are doing good!!
But if its not the Will of the Father!
Worker of Iniquity!!

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
I want my life to be built upon the Rock!!
I don’t want the sins of my life to be passed on to another generation!
I remember many times my grandfather telling me stories of his childhood
and how he did not want the things he faced as a child to carry over into his family.
And He made a decision to stop it!!
There are stories by the thousands of how our childhood affected our present!
I'm one of six children. were all abandoned.
At 11, I was the second oldest.
The youngest was my sister who was 4 months old.
I did not miss my parents, but I did miss my siblings when we were placed in separate foster homes.
One brother still denies that he was abandoned, and another won't speak to his wife and children about it because it is still so painful.
Interestingly, all six of us grew up to be hopeless drunks, as though we had set out to deliberately destroy ourselves.
Every time I disagreed with a husband, I left him, rather than risk him abandoning me.
I went through seven husbands before I realized what I was doing to myself.
In the home where I spent my last four years in foster care, I was forced to switch from left- to right- handed, had my birth day changed, had my first name spelled differently and was given a new last name.
Thought it was wonderful at the time, but I now realize the intention was to obliterate my past and transform me into a totally different person.
What I miss today more than anything is the family closeness that I never had.
I long for grand parents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
I feel that I don't know who I really am, and I blame the system, social services and child protective agencies for splitting up my family.
But when she finally realized that the action and habits in her life.
She was allowing them to control her future!!
We all have habits and actions that have been passed down through our earthly father’s DNA and circumstances.
But thank God for Grace!!
We have a new Father!!
We can become a new Creature in Christ!!
Rom 5:20 “20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:”
