Hebrews 8:6–13 ESV
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second. For he finds fault with them when he says: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

The Faulty Covenant

Hebrews 8:9 ESV
not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.

The New Covenant

Hebrews 8:10 ESV
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Better Promises

Hebrews 8:6 ESV
But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.
What are the promises
Forgiveness of Sin
Old Covenant - blood of animals
Transferal of sin and innocence between man and animal
New Covenant - Blood of Christ - God himself
Kinsman Reedemer - God became man so that we might be his kin and he could buy us back from our sin
Relationship with God
Old Covenant - by you living right your righteousness
New Covenant - by the righteousness of Jesus Christ he lived right

Better Results

Hebrews 8:10 ESV
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Old Covenant
God gave Moses the laws to write down on scrolls that were to be read regularly before the people.
They were told to memorize and recite it to one another that they might live out the righteousness of God
It put the burden on the people and it was to heavy to bear and none could keep it.
All have fallen short of the glory of God Paul says
New Covenant
God place the laws in the minds of men and write it on their hearts.
2 Corinthians 3:3 ESV
And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
He writes it on our hearts through the Holy Spirit of God. As we read the word the Spirit writes it on our hearts. He uses it to change our minds and hearts to follow God. No longer is it man’s power to change himself but now it is God’s power to change man

Better Relationship

Hebrews 8:11 ESV
And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest.
Old Covenant
Exodus 20:19 ESV
and said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen; but do not let God speak to us, lest we die.”
Man due to his sin was afraid to even speak to God and demanded an intermediary
New Covenant
No one has to teach the others here is who God is no has to say know you the Lord because we all can have God himself living within us. We can each know God ourselves.

Better Forgiveness

Hebrews 8:12 ESV
For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.”
Old Covenant
Peoples sins were forgiven through sacrifices and were rolled back annually each day of atonement God said he would withhold Judgement for another year
New Covenant
Through the Sacrifice of Jesus Sin was forgiven once and for all
God says he will remember our sins no more Mercy and Grace were poured out on the Cross
The coming of the new Covenant makes the old one obsolete and unnecessary except to show the world how desperately we needed the New Covenant.
