Introduction (5m)

I don’t react well to interruptions!

Sorry! Anger, sadness, complaining.

What about you?

As we begin this new series, Divine Interruptions, we note Jesus was interrupted throughout his ministry

On his way to … this happened, etc.

But today, we are looking at Jesus as the interrupter rather than the interrupted

How do you react when Jesus interrupts you? Anger, sadness, complaining or … ?

Explanation (5m)

Jesus interrupts Simon Peter, James, and John twice

1) To borrow one of their boats so he could preach to the large crowd from the water.
2) To suggest they go back out on the water to try and catch some fish.

Response: Anger, sadness, complaining? No -

Luke 5:5 NLT
“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”

If you say so, then yes!

Could have complained

Been out fishing all night, hadn’t caught anything, but now involved in backbreaking work of washing, mending, and arranging nets for drying. Why should they be interrupted just so someone could preach?

Could have been angry

Jesus was carpenter, not fisherman. Men hadn’t slept all night. Now load 1000 lbs of wet nets, row out to deep water, and circle round waiting for fish - all at the hottest part of the day.

But no: If you say so, then yes!

We should be if you say so people.

Application (5m)

If you are a Christian, then Jesus will regularly interrupt you and ask you to follow him

What will your answer be?

Easier to say yes when there is nothing left but to say yes

But what about when our boats are full of fish? Plenty of money, having a good time with our family, living in a good location, surrounded by friends, what then?
What nets and boats might you be holding on to that Jesus is asking you to let go of?
Peter, James, and John left everything that day to follow Jesus. No hesitation. No reservation. If you say so ...
We should be prepared to do the same.

There should be no bystanders in the Kingdom of God

Jesus demands everything, but only because he has already given everything of himself.
Will you be a If you say so disciple and say yes to Jesus today?

Next Steps

MS Oct 1991 - I want to say yes

1.
I want to see yes to the Lord of my life,
Say yes to his way his design;
I want to say yes to his plan for my life,
And no to ambitions of mine.
I want to say yes,
I want to say yes,
My will with his will to align.
C.
Yes to your will Lord, and your will alone,
Yes to your plans Lord, and no to my own;
Take all I have Lord, I cannot give less,
Here is my answer, it's yes!
2.
I want to say yes to the Lord of my life,
And no when temptations assail;
I want to say yes every day of my life,
Whatever that yes may entail.
I want to say yes,
I want to say yes,
Say yes without fear, without fail.
