KATHERINE SECTION:

We Need to Remember God’s Promises

Remember God’s promises, accomplish the mission, see amazing things

Acts 2:38–39 NIV
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
JOSH SECTION:

We have a mission to accomplish

PASTOR JON SECTION
Acts 2:38–41 NIV
Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

We will see amazing things

That’s why we exist as a church. To make disciples.
Fun fact - The spirit being poured out in acts, this is the first time in the new testament that the disciples crossed cultures, and started spreading the gospel to different cultures
The Spirit’s mission is to get everyone up and send everyone out. Everything else is secondary.
We can’t ever forget the forest for the trees. The temporary things we have now, versus the mission in regards to eternity we have in front of us.
That’s what we celebrate in our family services. We gather all our kids, and youth, and adults, and seniors together, and we remind ourselves - we’re in this for something bigger than ourselves.
We’re in this for all the people who aren’t in this room.
You see many times throughout acts, the disciples pleading with people to accept the Lord. And rejoicing for chances to share.
And many wild stories of things that happened while doing so:
Peter and John see a beggar lame from birth healed (silver and gold i don’t have)
People getting healed by Peter’s shadow as he walked by
Stephen witnessing to sanhendrin then being stoned to death
The church getting persecuted and scattered
Philip witnessing to an ethiopian eunuch and being miraculously transported away
Paul persecuting the church then getting blinded by Jesus and converting
Peter praying and Tabitha being raised from the dead
Shipwrecks and visions and imprisonments and miraculous escapes and trials and thousands coming to faith in the Lord
While we’re following this mission for Christ, we are going to see wild things. And it’s going to push us out of our comfort zones.
But it will be worth it.
When we honor God’s values we learn the value in God’s victories.
