You are complete in Christ

Introduction

In Him you are complete.

Union with Christ by faith.

Being united with him by faith we receive all the benefits of his finished work. His perfect obedience, his atoning death, his resurrection.

I. In Christ you are changed v.11- 13

a) The old you died with Christ

i) Circumcision of the heart.

The old way of living. The sins of the flesh. The old you. The old nature

Baptism is a picture of us dying and rising with Christ and the place where we choose to die and rise with him publicly.

Notice it isn’t baptism itself that does this, but faith v.12

1 Peter 3:21 “There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,”

b) You have been made alive with Christ

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

What has been described here is conversion.

Application

It is in Christ that this change has been made in the believers life. If this has happened to you it is because of your union with Jesus. It is all because of what he has done for you.

Knowing this means we must not trust in people and things other than Jesus.

II. In Christ you are forgiven v.13c- 15

a) ALL trespasses forgiven

b) All accusations removed

c) No more accusers

Although the vile accuser raw of ills that i have done. I know them well and thousands more. Jehovah knoweth none.
