Jesus is on the mount and what dwain said last week this is for the believer not that you cant use it for an evangelical text. But the text says that them. them refering to disciples
I believe it to be important to note that these words of Jesus are authoritative and live giving. and he was he was giving them a way of life to half. not as person to take account but a person that could have the kingdom Chapter 7 vere 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority and not as their scribes.
We think of the first verse we here the word Blessed and we continue to here the word blessed, often times we here people when asked how we are doing we will say oh im blessed but we say it with a countanance that does not seem that of one to be blessed. In this the word blessed comes from the greek word Makarios which means to have a happy disposition or a fortuanate.
But we see here Jesus make over and over the contrasting statement of being blessed when you are enduring a circumstance
Blessed are the poor in spirit, theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Happy is the person that has to depend on others support. / f The prerequisite for heaven definitly is not to be rich in spirit. But to be so without that we need somebody, and when you think of your salvation, maybe you can remember the exact words you pray maybe you can’t but it starts with a need to recognize who the savior is.
Theirs is the kingdom of heaven, they do not possess the kingdom of heaven just when they die but thiers is kingdom of heaven now. I believe today that because we believe in God we have the kingdom of heaven and its not achieved when we die but when accept christ. And we see how Jesus sandwhiches this present use for kingdom in verse 3 and then in verse 10
We have the kingdom thats present Luke 17:20-21
Luke 17:20–21 ESV
Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There!’ for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.”
But we also see that we will be in the kingdom of heaven through scripture the kingdom of heaven that is to come John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
In this sandwhich of the kingdom Jesus fills his message with they shall they shall So we see the kingdom
Blessed are those morn BLESSED ARE THOSE WHO GRIEVE OVER THIER loss or sin. this is an intense mourning, it would be someone morning a death, or grieving thier sin. again just the reality that we are dead in our trespasses as Christians and dead without christ. for they should be comforted
But the continuation of this we will mourn while we continue to live because of the fleshly bodies we live in and because of our earth. but Revelation 21:4
Revelation 21:4 ESV
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
So as we mourn we will eventually be comforted in finality by heaven. So we have hope.
verse 5 Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. we see a parallel with Psalm 37:11 “But the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundant peace.”
And if we look at that psalm we see what it means to be meek. And it means submitting to God, humbling yourself before God.
Then it says in verse 6. blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be satisfied.
again we can see in John 4:14 the reason why they will not thirst. as it says
But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
and in John 6:35 how he is the brad of life.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. “
But when we reach the kingdom in Revelation 7:16 it says
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.
Blessed are the mereciful for they shall recieve mercy.
Again it promises we will recieve mercy
But what does it mean to be merciful? Well we as believers have mercy given to us when we should be punished. But you cannot be merciful if you dont understand the mercy that is given to you. Again making the inference of this being for the christian.
We are a hurting and broken people, and we are offensive to God by our sin
Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
No mortal eye can see and comprehend God. And also when we live in sin it gets harder and harder for us to see God
The promise of Seeing God is made and we read about that again in 1 john 3:2
1 John 3:2 “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.”
and then in verse 9. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
we should bring about peace, overcoming evil with good. and we are called sons of God because we imitate the reconciliation that God made for us with Jesus
2 Corinthians 5:18 “All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;”
Looking at verse 10 agian there is the other piece of bread in this sandwhich. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteosness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Your reward for suffering for God is the kingdom.
Jesus says, though, that they are blessed because the kingdom of heaven is theirs already. In other words, admission that one does not deserve a place in God's kingdom is a requirement for entrance into that kingdom. This is the opposite of assuming one has earned citizenship by his own merit.
And then in verse 11. Instead of Blessed are the, its Blessed are you when you experience this persecution

11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
