The Bible and You:
The Bible and You:
(Taken from How to Effectively Study the Bible by J. J. Turner, pg. 12).
“In the Book of books you learn some of the following things about yourself. YOU LEARN:
That you are created in the image of God (Gen. 1:26-27).
That you have sinned (Rom. 3:23), and these sins have separated you from God (Isa. 59:1-2).
That, even though you have sinned, God loves you(John 3:16).
That God planned to save you in Christ before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:1-7).
[Note: Not in a Calvinistic sense of predestinating individuals, but predestinating the plan!]
That God is mindful of you and your actions (Psalm 139:1-9).
That Christ died for you; even if you had been the only sinner (Rom. 5:6-9).
That God’s grace is extended to you through Christ (Eph. 2:5-8).
That death is not the end of your existence (John 5:24; Luke 16:19ff).
That you are going to stand in the judgment (Heb. 9:27; Acts 17:30-31).
That your body will be resurrected (1 Cor. 15).
That you may know that you have eternal life (1 John 5:13).
That try as you may, you still sin (Rom. 7; 1 John 1:8-9); this is why we need Christ (Rom. 4; 1 John 1:7).
That you have an inheritance, reserved in heaven (1 Pet. 1:2-5; Acts 20:32).
That you have a Helper (Matt. 28:18-20; Php. 4:13).
That you need others in the Body of Christ (the church) (1 Cor. 12:13-21).
That you have a mission (Mark 16:15; 2 Tim. 2:2).”
