As many of you know one of my hobbies is beekeeping. I love bees. Minus getting stung by them I love spending time observing them perform one of the most important jobs on earth. It is said that honey bees pollinates approximately 75% of the fruit, vegetables and nuts that we eat.
The more I earn about honey bees the more they affirm my belief in our creator and the more I learn about the awesome power of our God.
But I’m not the only one who has been fascinated by this tiny insect. Charles Darwin probably the most famous Atheist in history had this to say about the honeybee.
“Such simple instincts as bees making a beehive could be sufficient to overthrow my whole theory”
Let me share with you just a few of the amazing abilities of the honeybee that help me appreciate our God and creator.
Honey Bee Flight
I love sitting at the entrance of a hive and watch how the bees defy the laws of physics and fly with loads of pollen and nectar twice their body weight. Its amazing to watch them come in at high speeds and be able to stop on a dime with just a small landing strip. Something aviators have been studying for many years.
During the short 30 day life span of a worker bee in the spring and summer one bee will travel approximately 500 miles in order to collect pollen and nectar for their hive.
Honey Production
Not only is their ability to fly amazing but the work that they put into making Honey is mind blowing.
• For example one hive can house approximately 50,000 bees. And these 50K bees can produce well over 100 pounds of honey each year.
In order to make just one pound of honey a single hive must travel over 75k miles or travel over three times around the world and visit over 2 million flowers.
If that inst crazy enough, as hard as a worker bee works, in its life time they will only produce approximately 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime.
Communication
The more I learn about bees the more my faith in my creator grows.
The second reason should be the most obvious. I love Honey.
But something I love more than honey is the Word of God. Psalm 19:9-10
the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
value and desire of honey in ane.
God’s word is sweeter than honey because...
The benefits of God’s word are better....
the psalmist says that God's words are "sweeter than honey" because they are both sweet and nourishing3. God's word is more precious than gold and all of them are righteous2.
honey never spoils neither does Gods word it last over time…
It doesn’t need any flavorings or preservatives to make it taste better, and you cannot add to it or take away from it. It lasts through the centuries and never goes out of date. You and I can take the portions of Scripture that archeologists have found in caves, even thousands of years ago, and they are just as enlivening today as they were when they were first written. In a world filled with processed products and hybrid wisdom, the words of God are pure, golden, and luxuriously sweet.
How many flowers can a bee pollinate in one day? About 5,000! If you think that’s amazing, consider this: To make one pound of honey, a hive of bees must travel over 55,000 miles and visit two million flowers!
