Temptation of Jesus
Temptation of Jesus
We all face temptation at one time or another we went over that last week but how are we supposed to face temptation? What do we say when the devil cmes against us? (and he WILL)
Matthew 4:1-11 (KJV 1900)
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. 3 And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. 4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. 8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. 11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
1. If you are who you say you are command these stones to be made bread!
a. Satan will bring that temptation against you (if you are really Pentecostal make a miracle!)
A writer that doesn’t believe in miracles, I read about, has a $100.00 reward for anyone who can prove he was truly healed.
b. God’s word tells us how to fight evil!
Ephesians 6:17 (KJV 1900)
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
c. We should be able to do the same!
2. Once again he took Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple and said if you really are the Son of God cast yourself down.
a. Satan tried an old trick he still uses today he misquoted or used out of context a portion of scripture.
b. Jesus showed it as important to know the word as to recite it!
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV 1900)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
c. And then Jesus used the word against the devil!
Matthew 4:7 (KJV 1900)
7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
3. Satan took one last shot greed works on everybody else why not try it?
Matthew 4:8-9 (KJV 1900)
8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
a. Jesus wasn’t and we shouldn’t be touched by greed he already owns the cattle on a thousand hills!
Luke 12:27-28 (KJV 1900)
27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
b. When faced by the devil we should be able to say “It is written” that does more to do battle than any other thing we can say!
c. Jesus finally put it to him
Matthew 4:10 (KJV 1900)
10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
