Romans 5:12-21....

The basis on the remaining verses of chapter 5 is that bu one man sin entered into all and by one man’s death can provide salvation.
Verse 12....Just as sin entered....Not a particular sin, but the inherent propensity to sin entered the human realm; men became sinners by nature. Adam passed to all his descendants the inherent sinful nature he possessed because of his first disobedience. That nature is present from the moment of conception (Psalm 51:5 “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.” ), making it impossible for man to live in a way that pleases God. Satan, the father of sin (1 John 3:8 “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” ), first brought temptation to Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1-7)
Through one man.....when Adam sinned, all mankind sinned in his loins. Since his sin transformed his inner nature and brought spiritual death and depravity, that sinful nature would be passed on seminally to his offspring as well.
Death.......Adam was not originally subject to death, but through his sin it became a grim certainty for him and his offspring. Death has 3 distinct manifestations:
Spiritual death or separation from God (Ephesians 4:18 “Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:” )
Physical death (Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” )
Eternal death, also called the 2nd death, which includes not only the eternal separation from God, but also eternal torment in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15).
Because all sinned.......Because all humanity existed in the loins of Adam, and have through procreation inherited his fallenness and depravity, it can be said all sinned in him. Therefore, humans are not sinners because they sin, but rather they sin because they are sinners.
Verse 13.......Sin is not imputed.....Though all men were regarded as sinners, because there was no explicit list of commands, there was no strict accounting of their specific points of violation.
When there is no law...........The period from Adam to Moses, when God had not yet given the Mosaic law.
Verse 14......Nevertheless death reigned........But even without the law, death was universal. All men from Adam to Moses were subject to death, not because of their sinful acts against the Mosaic law (which they did not yet have), but because of their own inherited sinful nature.
Not sinned....likeness (similitude) ....of Adam........Those who had no specific revelation as did Adam(Genesis 2:16–17 “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”) or those who had the Mosaic law, but nevertheless sinned against the holiness of God (Those who sinned without the law)
Who is the figure of Him to come...........Both Adam and Christ were similar in that their acts affected many others. The phrase serves as transition from the apostles discussion of the transference of Adam’s sin to the crediting of Christ’s righteousness.
Verse 15......Many died.........All men bear the guilt of sin and are therefore subject to death......
Physical and Spiritual death....
Actually all die physically, but many will receive the second death as well.
Much more.......The free gift is not like the transgression, Christ’s one act of redemption is immeasurably greater than Adam’s one act of disobedience/condemnation!
Verse 16.....The gift.....Again Paul makes the distinction between the gift and the condemnation/sin
Condemnation.......The divine guilty verdict
Adam brought upon all men the condemnation for only one offense (his willful act of disobedience)
Christ, however, delivers the believer from the condemnation of many offenses.....Justification.
Verse 17......Death reigned.....Adam’s sin brought universal death, exactly the opposite of what he expected and satan had promised.
Much more......Here again, over and above the offense is the gift (Grace)
Abundant Grace......Grace upon grace.....John 1:16 “And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.” Better said “Grace upon grace”
Grace, grace, grace, grace, grace.......!!!!!
Gift of righteousness.....2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
Unlike Adam’s act, Christ act has and will accomplish exactly what He intended, Spiritual Life!
One brings death the other brings life eternally, spiritually, perfectly, as it was intended!
Ephesians 2:11-16....
Verse 18-19.....Summary of the analogy of Adam and Christ......Therefore....So then....
One act by one caused results....condemnation
By One’s obedience the free gift to all who will believe.
Justification of life.........Salvation, life everlasting in the presence of glorious perfection!
Verse 20.....The Law’s presence caused man’s sin to increase
Basically it made men more aware of their own sinfulness and inability to keep God’s perfect standard.
Verse 21.....Even so.........Sin does reign unto death but even more than that Grace overcomes our sinfulness
