What is the point of baptism and what does it do?

Spirit Baptism

This is the baptism that regards to you believing that Christ is Lord and your savior. That Christ died for your sins.

Spirit Baptism, which you will see in scripture is when you are saved, sealed with the spirit, and now you join as part of our family.

Go through the circles of the Gospel. Our brokenness separates us from the God.

Without Christ, we are Dead

Romans 3:23 ESV

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

This word brokenness in the circle basically means that we are dead. We are broken and cannot save ourselves.

Romans 6:23 ESV

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Through Jesus, We Are Made Alive

But through what Jesus has done, he has made a way, the only way. He is the way, the truth, and the life.

John 3:16–17 ESV

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Romans 6:11 ESV

11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:5 ESV

5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

Water Baptism

Water baptism is a beautiful act of obedience and represents this process.

You are buried under water as Jesus was buried in the ground and then raised up. You once were dead in your sins and now you as you get out of the water, you are made alive in Christ.

Water Baptism is a public display of our faith

It’s the idea of why I wear my wedding ring. It showcases that I am married

Water Baptism is so important for new believes:

A new believer in Jesus Christ should desire to be baptized as soon as possible. In Acts 8 Philip speaks “the good news about Jesus” to the Ethiopian eunuch, and, “as they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?’” (verses 35–36). Right away, they stopped the chariot, and Philip baptized the man.

**Old Testament:**

**New Testament:**

4. Church received books with apostolic authority, including Gospels and Paul's writings.

5. Apostolic writings served as inspired and authoritative teachings for the early church.

**Bible's Journey:**

1. Early church regarded the Old Testament and apostolic writings as divine revelation.

2. Christians copied and circulated apostolic works, striving to identify authentic books.

3. Books were initially maintained separately in Greek and later compiled into codices.

4. The Bible was translated into various languages, including English.

5. Modern English Bibles rely on ancient Hebrew Old Testament and Greek New Testament manuscripts.

**Conclusion:**

- The Old Testament was originally in Hebrew, and the New Testament in Greek.

- Scriptures are available today, capable of making individuals wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
