I. The Appearance of the Son of Man v13
A. Nature of the Son
Revealed in a Vision
Daniel receives a vision in the night from the Holy Spirit. he is “caught up” in the Spirit (2 Pet 1:19-21)
frequently recieves visions in night
Context of Vision: Daniel is in exile; people are persecuted; this is a dark day in the history of God’s people.
Like the son of Man
contrast to the four beasts: the best men can do is beastial. the descriptions are meant to horrify us. Man was meant to have dominion over the beasts yet by the fall they have become just like them
this is the True Man, the Second Adam. the four great kingdoms give way to this kingdom. Daniel 2 records the colossus of four metals destroyed by a stone that would become a mountain. This son of man is the stone who would destroy the kingdoms of man and establish the throne of him dominion.
From Heaven:
worship him who goes the way he came. This Son of Man comes down from heaven.
His source is heavenly.
consider his deity
consider his initiative: God comes to save his people
salvation is impossible from an earthly perspective
B. Nature of the Ancient of Days
1. He comes to the Father: a picture of Christ the Mediator
2. He is able to stand in the presence of God and not be consumed.
