The Lord Who Sanctifies

Leviticus 20:7–8 NKJV
7 Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. 8 And you shall keep My statutes, and perform them: I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
What is Sanctification?
Sanctification literally means "to set apart for special use or purpose", that is, to make holy or sacred.
Therefore, sanctification refers to the state or process of being set apart, i.e. "made holy", as a vessel, full of the Holy Spirit of God.
Set apart
As Christians we are supposed to be the SET APART ONES
We are no supposed to look like the World
WE might be in this World but we’re not of it
We’re supposed to see things differently than other people
1 Peter 2:9 NKJV
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
Rooms in our houses that are sanctified:
Dining room
Have a table that you cover to eat off it
China cabinets
Sanctified Dishes
Sarah’s Fiesta dishes
Me using it to dye the grout in our bathroom
Leviticus 20:7–8 NKJV
7 Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. 8 And you shall keep My statutes, and perform them: I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
Preparing them for Longevity in the Promised-land:
1. Exodus/Redeeming-
2. Leviticus/Preparation
3. Numbers-Promised land
Let’s look at why he told them to do this:
Leviticus 20:1–8 NKJV
1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Again, you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘Whoever of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who dwell in Israel, who gives any of his descendants to Molech, he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones. 3 I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off from his people, because he has given some of his descendants to Molech, to defile My sanctuary and profane My holy name. 4 And if the people of the land should in any way hide their eyes from the man, when he gives some of his descendants to Molech, and they do not kill him, 5 then I will set My face against that man and against his family; and I will cut him off from his people, and all who prostitute themselves with him to commit harlotry with Molech. 6 ‘And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people. 7 Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am the Lord your God. 8 And you shall keep My statutes, and perform them: I am the Lord who sanctifies you.
He goes on to tell them about all these other sins:
Curses his father and mother
Commits adultery
He’s warning them against incest, Beastiality
Against mediums, sorcery, witchcraft
Notice a lot of these weren’t big asks
When God commands us not to do something it’s usually not to benefit himself
He trying to save us from heartache
He was not only warning them about not partaking in abominable action, he was saying don’t tolerate in other peoples lives either
We’ve gotten to the point as a nation that we’re trying to be so inclusive and not offend anyone that we just straight up tolerate sin
I fully understand that no one is perfect but society has completely removed godly/moral guardrails from this country
What happens when we ignore God in our promised-land?
Leviticus 20:22–23 NKJV
22 ‘You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out. 23 And you shall not walk in the statutes of the nation which I am casting out before you; for they commit all these things, and therefore I abhor them.
If we remove God from the equation for long enough eventually WE GET SPIT out
ON June 25, 1962 The supreme court deemed it unconstitutional to pray in schools in America
The supreme court decides its illegal to have the 10 commandments posted outside of courthouses
NO wonder we’re in this mess as a country
Next year I’m going to do a series on doors that America has left open
Does that scripture sound familiar Spit out?
Revelation 3:14–22 NKJV
14 “And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write, ‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: 15 “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’ ”
They got so caught up with their prosperity and their promise land that they became useless
They thought they had everything going on
They looked nice on the outside
By the world standards they were successful
But they left Jesus sitting outside of the church
He was wondering if he was even invited into the building
We have to be careful we don’t let complacency into our lives and into our church
What does that mean for Sanctification Today?
Sanctification is not about perfection, but persistence.
Fighting sin is a lifelong endeavor. The believer cooperates with the Holy Spirit working in them, their works being an expression of gratitude for their salvation.
Sanctification, therefore, begins at the moment of conversion.
Philippians 2:12–13 NKJV
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
We work in unity with God’s Spirit to accomplish good works
God will give us the strength but we have to operate the will power
Don’t put up with sin in your own life
Paul tell us our reasonable service is to offer ourselves as living sacrifice
Romans 6:11 NKJV
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Dead people can’t sin
Dead people aren’t addicted
That sinful nature in me is dead, That’s not how I operate anymore
Band come up
Colossians 3:1–11 NKJV
1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. 5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. 8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
A Few Fun Facts about sanctification:
Sanctification is acquired through a unity and Faith with Christ
Sanctification is hard
It’s not easy or everyone would be doin it
Don’t beat up on yourself for making mistakes but don’t be ok with it either
It’s a group effort-we have to be around people who are going in the same direction as us
We’re sanctified together
Sanctification doesn’t come over night
Sanctification is only made possible through Redemption
Communion:
Hebrews 9:22 NKJV
22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Story of redemption
Jesus took our place the ultimate once and for all sacrifice
Hebrews 4:15 NKJV
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
A perfect man who withstood temptation knew no sin and took our place on the cross so that we could live
With all other religions there is no guarantee of salvation:
Romans 10:9–10 NKJV
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 NKJV
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
Colossians 1:27 NKJV
27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
Revelation 12:11 NKJV
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
