Looking For A Breakthrough

Mark 2:4 ESV
And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.
Mark 2:1–12 ESV
And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”—he said to the paralytic— “I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
Over the last two week we heard Pastor Glen say you do what you can do physically and let God do what is impossible for us folks.
There are times in our lives where we need a breakthrough and that looks different for each of us. But what is the same for us is that we have to do our part and then let God be God and He will do His part.
Do we want to see healings, miracles, signs and wonders, then we do what we can and then allow God to be God! Too many times we try to make it happen when we can’t instead of turning it over to God.
Good Friends
Mark 2:3 ESV
And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.
His friends were carrying him to see Jesus they knew if they could just see Jesus, He would heal him. But when they got there they were not able to get in. But yet they didn’t give up they had to think outside the box to for their friend to get in front of Jesus.
Determined Persistent Friends
Mark 2:4 ESV
And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.
The friends did all they could do for the paralytic man and got him in front of Jesus.
Life is going to have its problems, the question is what are we going to about it? we can’t just give up and quit, we need to do whatever it takes to overcome the situation to breakthrough the ceiling!
The ceiling is what we have decided is the stopping point, that barrier that is preventing us in our minds from going any further.
Mark 5:28–34 ESV
For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”
This woman was thinking outside the box she wanted a breakthrough, she wanted to bust through the ceiling and said to herself, all i need to is touch the hem of His garment. She broke through a 12 year ceiling of negativity that was holding her back from a healed.
Faithful Friends
Mark 2:5 ESV
And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Jesus see’s him and his friends: we will call them faithful, determined, driven, and persistent these cats, dudes were not going to let ceiling stop them from getting a breakthrough! They didn’t want their paralyzed friend to be left on a mat for the rest of his life.

The inner conviction and trust of the paralytic and his friends in Jesus’ power is evident in the effort they made to get to Jesus. Mark commends their faith as it was manifest in their action. In Mark, faith is expressed concretely as it overcomes obstacles placed in its way

Skeptical By-standers (Scribes, Legalist)
Mark 2:6–7 ESV
Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
There will always be those us and others who doubt what is happening, but it is with faith that we show the loving power of Jesus Christ.
Jesus a Perceived Their Questioning
Mark 2:8 ESV
And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts?
Jesus perceives that their reasoning or questioning was going on in the heart of these men and squashes it and puts them in their place. We have to come to a place where we block out the negativity and reasoning of others from allowing us to get the breakthrough that we need.
The Breakthrough Happens
Mark 2:11–12 ESV
“I say to you, rise, pick up your bed, and go home.” And he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all, so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, “We never saw anything like this!”
Jesus, being Jesus brings about the breakthrough for the man!
Hebrews 11:1 ESV
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Assurance=substance homologeo also known as acknowledge , confess, assure, promise with an oath which means grounds for certainty, pledge, token of proof, the state of certainty, validity.
Conviction elenchos a resolute faith, convinced of God’s intervention, to be sure about things unseen.

We’ve never seen anything like this. The crowd’s reaction indicates that something unusual had taken place. In effect, their reaction was, “What’s going on here?”

This happened because of the paralytic and his for friends faith, they knew that giving up wasn’t answer and would not bring about the healing. But they knew, they had to think outside the box to breakthrough the roof in their situation. They needed to put their faith into action!!!
There is your faith!
There is our faith!
There is our faith plus your faith!
That combination of his and their faith can remove that ceiling to allow the breakthrough that was needed.
Ecclesiastes 4:9 ESV
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.
Matthew 18:19–20 ESV
Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
